Costco: Dry Pork Zo Song - $9.99 [Food/Vendor]

2006 Dec 11
Do you notice that Costco has included many food products targetted for Chinese lately? For example, Moon cakes in August, Chinese mushrooms, Ribena blackcurrant juices. Now, they are selling dry pork. My husband just bought this jar of Dry shredded pork from Costco (420g) for $9.99. Good price.

How do you eat it? You can put some in your wrap, or your sandwich and see if you like it. Traditionally, this kind of dry shredded pork is eaten with plain white congee (think about the time when you were sick and your tongue felt so bitter. Plain white congee with dry shredded pork serves to be a good soothing food.)

Otherwise, you can find this dry shredded pork inside a sticky rice ball (I would be surprised if Northern Han doesn't offer sticky rice ball since this is typical Northern Chinese food).

P.S. How come the option to include a photo is not available any more?

Thanks for telling us how to eat the dried pork -- I've wondered about that when I saw it in stores. Now you're really making me crave congee!

The option to add a photo didn't go anywhere. It just isn't available when you first create a new topic (I'll make a note to myself to add that capability). For now, you can put the photo into a follow-up post. :)

Here is the picture of the jar.

I see from the ingredient list it has all four food groups: Sugar, Lard, Salt and MSG! ;-)

I once had a manager who kept a jar like this on his desk next to the computer. I never saw him actually eat any of it though...

Ashley, I just tested the "add photo at topic creation" capability in my sandbox. I'll publish it to the live site once things quieten down tonight.

Thanks, Mark. For the home-made sandwich you normally make at home, just add some small amount of dry pork to your sandwich/wrap to "enhance" the taste. Try it out one day and let me know if you like it.

P.S. I would recommend that you don't buy the big jar. Buy the small jar in any of the Chinese grocery store to try out first. The small one only costs around $3.50. The best one is made in Taiwan. The same manufacturer that makes the beef jerky.

But I also tried the best beef jerky that is made in Canada. This is the one made by Vancouver's "Bee Kim Heng Beef & Pork Jerky Ltd.". Too bad that I can't buy their beef jerky products in Ottawa. So, if you are going to Vancouver, don't forget to pick up few bags of the Singapore style spicy beef jerky. The address is: 4194 Fraser St., Vancouver, B.C. V5V 4E8 (Fraser & 26th Ave.) THEY ARE SOOOOOOO GOOD! (Mind you that they are expensive!)
