Prata [Food/Vendor]

2008 Feb 29
Hi foodies,

can you help me? I'm looking for Prata. Naturally my first move was to do a search here on OF. The closest thing I could come up with is Curry Puff Curry Puff....is that the same thing?

so it's aka's: roti prata (Singapore), paratha (India), roti canai (Malaysia) etc.

From what I understand it's a fluffy, buttery, moist naan-looking like type pastry that can either be savoury (served with the pictured curry and/or filled with onions and meat) or sweet (margarine and sugar)

If it's not Curry Puff...I'll make a Desperately Seeking page.
Any direction you guys can offer = much appreciated + food porn pics once I find it. :D Thanks

Ah, parathas! I love them so. Either with dipping sauce or used to eat your curry, there's something grand about their pliant flakiness.

Parathas are like rotis/chapatis that are made with butter instead of just water. (Although roti recipes do vary, so there probably are some made with butter anyway.) So they flaky when you cook them.

Grace Ottawa Grace Ottawa has some really good ones. They're par-baked and frozen, so all you have to do is throw them on a skillet/griddle/tava/whatever for a bit and you're set. I don't know if they carry any of the stuffed type, though. If you need any more help or guidance, let me know.
