Savour Italy - Italian wines. Antonio Mauriello does an excellent presentation
www.savouritaly.ca/workshops
Divino Wine Studio does them a few times a year - not limited to Italian only.
Doesn't look like the website has been updated for the New Year. But you could email them

Check the LCBO website. They used to do tasting events but I am not sure if they still do

For private wine tastings
Kristen Perrin (aka Kippy)
I arranged a private wine tasting as a gift for friends through Groovy Grapes. Kippy was our sommelier. She asked what our likes and dislikes and gave us some food pairing suggestion. We had the food, she brought the wine. Very knowledgeable and a fun evening.

I think groovygrapes are no longer in business. I emailed support@groovygrapes.com and mail was returned due to no account (The email account that you tried to reach does not exist) and call to their ottawa tel/fax number and toll free number and got the message that the number I dialed is not in service..

Okay the reply to the email from Helen Sauve also failed so did the form thing again and Sean Moher emailed me back this time.
Mentioned to him that they have issues with mail and phone and he said he would check up on it.
Nice guy but at min $500 for 2 hours of tutored tasting before cost of wine, it is too cost prohibitive for the wine tasting we have yet to organize unless we expand or link up with another group to organize a larger wine tasting..

Did a little trip to LCBO Rideau to pay for the cooking class with Stephane La Salle of Albion Room for Feb 23 and took the opportunity to talk to someone about special wine tasting and try out the tasting bar down in vintages and tried out their complementary tasting.
Talked to Christine for special events and they can do a custom tasting for $725 for 6 wines including a little bit of food and there is some wiggle room on the price depending on what we want but basically this would make sense if we have 10-15 people which we don't have right now..
The complementary tasting was pretty crappy with an australian white which I did not try and an argentian malbec that was pretty mediocre and a mexican beer which was meh and a porter which I did not try since you are only allowed 2 tastings. The only redeeming item was the sample of chili with corn bread which was featured in the Let it snow brochure.
The tasting bar by comparison was a hidden gem. It is open 12 noon - 8pm Mon-Sat and 12-4 Sun. Lots of nice samples to purchase for $2,3,4 with some bottle prices in the $30-80 range and there was a wonderful 21 year old single malt (Glengoyne?) tasting for $10 where the bottle was maybe $250. One of the $2 tasting was the 2012 Laroche Chablis 1ere Cru I had my eyes on retailing for about $35-36. While nice I prefer a nice red such as a Chateauneuf de pape or something similar at that price range.
There were 2 double sided options about 3-4 or so on each side but they limit you to 4 tastings... Will take picture next time since my phone was low in power today but plan to go early for the cooking class and do a few more samples since the selection is likely to change in a week or so in their normal 2 week rotation. I had a nice Riesling, the Laroche 1ere Cru, a nice 2009 Cenyth california cab and the 21 yr old single malt (Glengoyne?) all for $17 total.. There are some places that would charge you that much for 1-2 tasting glasses.

The 2nd wine tasting that jumped out at me for the Spring 2016 catalog is
Icons & Legends: A Premium Wine-Tasting Adventure - $75
Tues Apr 12, 7:00-8:30pm
Dom Perignon, Sassicaia, Ridge, Antinori, Beaucastel... Taste some of the world's most revered names and coveted wines as an expert Product Consultant presents a small collection of the rarest and most premium bottles offered by the LCBO. Dom Perignon will great you as you take your seat in what promises to be a truly decadent and luxurious experience..
I had bought my brother a bottle of Dom for his 30th Bday but I did not get to taste it since I was working in the UK. Unfortunately I am not going to be in Ottawa on Apr 12 since I have plans to go to New Orleans for French Quarter Fest :( It is not available at LCBO Rideau for this cycle so I might suggest that LCBO Rideau about this session for the fall :D
