Looking for Spiced Pecans [General]

2015 Nov 17
At this time of year for the past few years I start to put spiced pecans in various things like porridge, salads, and with cheese plates. I've been getting the spiced pecans from Bulk Barn which carried it seasonally as a Christmas item, and I've actually been very happy with that product. Sadly Bulk Barn has decided not to carry this seasonal product again this year.

Does anyone know where I can buy spiced pecans a few pounds at at time?

Thanks Dave...

Seen them at the organic place upstairs in Billings Bridge.

Nuts.com has amazing nuts.
Shipping is around 2 or 3 days to Canada and will make you think Bulk Barn products are not that fresh.
Only issue w nuts.com is you will end up placing bigger and bigger orders and have a kitchen full of nuts.com bags.

The "organic place" upstairs at Billings, I am refusing to buy a lot there as they have refused to label their bulk bins and when I did contact management about that was told "we will think about it...maybe".

Cedars grocery, the Kilborn store has really good nuts.
Cedars at Bank st does not carry as much bulk nuts- but I know the company that does their bulk is called Yupik and they sell online and are from Montreal.
Cedars has always been great at labelling their bulk bins-my only complaint is they took out the bulk candy jelly beans I used to like (but they were really expensive, brand Green Beans).

Cedar's grocery their bulk is always very fresh, they have some maple organic nuts at the Kilborn store and they are so good.

you can make your own.

raw pecans, toss in some melted butter to coat, add the seasonings/spices of your choice.
lay in a single layer on a cookie sheet in about a 250 oven until toasted. cool on tray and put in a jar/container.

I make them every christmas, if you want them a little sweet add sugar/maple syrup/honey etc. Spicy add hot sauce/chilis

It's been a few years, but fall is the time to order fresh pecans from Georgia and Louisiana. I used to order a 5 pound bag and spend a weekend shelling them. Ouch, my poor thumbs.

Just do an online search and you should turn up a long list.

You won't be sorry.

I don't think I've tried Georgia pecans, but nuts.com has them and also other pecan shelled and in the shell too.

nuts.com

They also have an amazing nut cracker that has metal " teeth" and breaks the nuts right in half! I have not seen this kind of nut cracker tool here.

-all the nuts and food I've gotten from nuts.com has been super fresh. Now when I go to Bulk Barn and buy a small handfull of nuts- they are never that good.
Also nuts.com has really good customer service,if you do not like something they will give you your money back or replace the item.

Nuts.com also often has free gifts when you order. In Oct it was a Halloween snack pack with candy, caramel corn and trail mix (around 600 grams for that item).
They just sent me a coupon for a free pecan pie when you spend $75.
I am prob going to place an order just to get that pie (I bought one and they are amazing).
I can make my own pecan pies, but this one is so good! (I used to make bourbon pecan pies at a restaurant in ottawa years ago....).

Also from nuts.com the DuChilly hazelnuts are different and really good.

*Good tip on making your own spiced nuts. But I figured if someone was asking they did not want to bother to make their own!

I've been to CA Paradis and they do not carry anything like this, and no idea where else in Ott you would find this.

Only issue w nuts.com is trying to limit the size of my order- they have a lot of good candy, trail mix, spices-their pickling spice mix is really cheap and good.
Their gluten-free choc chip cookie mix is so good,I've even used it as cookie dough in ice cream, did not add egg-just a bit of water and was so good!
