Has any one else heard that Sausage Kitchen is closing?

Oh I hope not! I know the store changed hands 4 or 5 years ago but they still sell the same great products. Most of the original staff seems to have left though and it's not as busy as it used to be...

That's too bad- if it is.
I really used to like that store, but am never in that part of the city or else I would go there more.

As posted on their Facebook:

"Sausage Kitchen:
I am devestated to tell you, it is true.
My name is Mia and I am the manager at Sausage Kitchen.
My mother is the owner.
For over 3 years our family has dedicated our lives to this store, along with the previous owner, and his family, that continued to work there with us after their 10 years of ownership.
We only found out on Wednesday that the doors would be closed Thursday morning.
It honestly has come as a complete and utter shock to myself and our staff.
As far as I can understand the doors are permanently closed, however, this is all new to me and I don't have all the information, nor do I even understand the information that I have as of now.
I will keep this page updated as I learn new information."

I am truly sad to hear this. I loved their products and the new owners seemed to have tried very hard to keep things the way they were. I know sometimes change is good but their sandwich counter was always popular and their smoked chicken and bacon were the best and I loved their sausages. I still have some smoked chicken left in the freezer from Thanksgving dinner so at least I have enough left for a couple more meals... The Bank Street Sausage Kitchen has really good products but a bit of a bus ride for me whereas the Sausage Kitchen was within walking distance. Time to find a new favourite sausage place.

Disappointing news,

Their Facebook thread said is was due to financial discrepancies with the landlord, fairly sure that building is owned by the City of Ottawa, so I'd be curious to know what kind of rent they are asking.

Arrggh! So so sad. We've been going there for 20+ years (with all the various owners) and have not found any sausages to replace the turkey bratwurst. My kids are seriously disappointed.

I used to go to the Bank st store all the time when I lived in the Glebe.

Bank st sausage is really good, or else Whole Foods makes their own sausages in-store.
I only tried one chicken sausage from Whole Foods, but it was very good. will buy more.
Still have a bunch of chicken sausage from Saveurs des Monts in Quebec.
