Best Smoked Meat in Town? [Food/Vendor]

2015 Jul 16
Hey Guys,

I have a wee bit of a dilemma. See, I have an incredible craving for smoked meat, a bunch of free time and some extra money, but I am not sure where the best spot in the city to get some is. Any suggestions?

I'd say Meat in the Middle had the closest to Schwartz's I've had in Ottawa, but the portion/price ratio was a bit off. Still had good potato salad and pickle and the sandwich wasn't miniscule, so you'll probably want to try it.

The Butchery in Bells Corners has good smoked meat sammies.

I'm interested to hear other suggestions.

Whenever I have a hankering for smoked meat sandwiches I head to The Butchery in Bells Corners. A bit of a drive if you aren't in the west end but worth it imho.

Ended up hitting Meat in the Middle. Twas really fatty and greasy, and that's all I tasted. I mean, it was really tasty, but not what I was lookign for I guess.

maybe next time I got most fo a day off, oddessy to teh Butchery I guess.

My husband likes the smoked meat at Bobby's Table on Montreal Road not far past the bridge that crosses the Rideau River. He claims it is the best he has had in Ottawa.

I have never confirmed this, but the rumour was Bobby's Table ended up with the Kardish receipe, after the nasty demise of that well-known Ottawa institution played out.

Costco has cut pieces of smoked meat from Schwartz's. Get yourself some Rideau Bakery rye steam the chunk for 45 minutes get a sharp knife and slice against the grain and you have a better smoked meat than any restaurant in town.

Meat-in-the-middle is my go-to (and, imo, better/more reliable than Schwartz's). Big Rig is another place where they do real smoked meat, but I'm so-so on it.

My mother-in-law really likes the smoked meat sandwiches at Chances 'R. I've not tried them myself, but she grew up and lived in Montreal for a long time.

Meat-in-the-Middle, hands down.

Unless you want to do what Ken V suggests, but that's too much like work!
