I went to the Byward Market stew cook off last Friday for the first time. The event was well organized IMO with the 24 vendors set up inside a heated tent. One of the Winterlude employees/volunteers was at the entrance collecting people's admission then a second person was a few feet away handing out bowls and spoons. There were a variety of Byward Market restos present as well as the Union Mission and the Shephards of Good Hope. I thoroughly enjoyed my stew with mushroom sauce from Bite This, a game meat stew (can't remember the meat) from Must Wine Bar, and the stew from The Union Mission. It was really hard for me to decide which stew I liked the best but I was glad to see The Union Mission won a people's choice award. The winners are posted on the Byward Market BIA's website: www.byward-market.com
