Recommendations for low key classy birthday dinner spots? [General]

Fancy pants is too subjective and relative for a tag. A huge number of restaurants would fall in a grey area between fancy pants and not fancy pants. Is Moxie's fancy pants? (A: Nope, how could it be when nobody there even wears pants? lol)
LF, some of the quieter better places I know include: MeNa, Albion Rooms, Allium, Beckta. But there's always *some* chance you'll have a loud group near you. If you want guaranteed classiness you'd probably have to splurge for somewhere like Le Baccara.

I've always been a fan of Whalesbone for small birthday meals (2-6 people). Its nice to sit at the chefs bar if you are only two :) Classy, yet laid back and fun.
I recently visited Two Six Ate. Food was top notch, but you have to like the "sharing plate" idea. They also made a killer Mai Tai.
