Food on a sailboat! [Travel]

My Dad spent many years living on a small sail boat in St. Catherine's in the summer, then he'd sail down to the Caribbean in the winter. I'll have to talk to my husband and see what we can remember about some of his tricks and tips.
The only one I can think of now is mayo that comes in a squeeze bottle doesn't need to go in your galley icebox. It's shelf stable even after opening it. Same for a jar of mayo, but it's easy to contaminate a jar, less so with the squeeze bottle.
And I recall he always hung things like fruit in a small cotton mesh hammock, so it wouldn't get bruised.
I think much of your meal planing is going to depend on what you can get at local stores when you put in at shore, how good your refrigeration is, how bad the bugs are, etc.

Funny you say that, Francis!
Once when sailing from Florida to Cuba, my Dad got stuck in a bad storm for a few days. The small turkey he and my step-mudder had just roasted before the storm blew up was left unattended in their galley oven for the duration of the storm.
When the storm passed and they were able to eat again, they said it was like a Virginia ham, green on the outside but fine and tasty on the inside!
