Beckta 2.0: service vs price [Food/Vendor]
2014 Nov 22
Hi Check the Ice: Thank you so much for your post and for coming back when our kitchen was open to try us out in our first week. I'm thrilled that you enjoyed yourselves and took the time to share your experiences with the Foodies crowd. I have to admit a personal addiction to the crullers as well. I can't wait to personally welcome you back on another occasion, maybe in the fine dining area this time where you can really see the chefs strut their stuff.

With Ottawa awash in good and not so good eateries, it is inevitable that the market will vote with their wallets and some are gonna fail. Superior food alone cannot save a business, nor can a great location. But a well-educated and motivated staff can make an evening out so memorable, that one dreams about returning as soon as possible.
And so it was at Beckta 2.0
After a late-night visit on Friday, we were told that the kitchen was closed. A short tour of the new facility ensued, along with promises to return at a more decent hour. Fate had us back there the next night, and gratis bubbly appeared along with more apologies for the misstep the previous night. In fact every server we interacted with commented on our plight, up to the man himself.
Good food was served along with intelligent commentary, and a genuine concern for sincere enjoyment. Off-menu items appeared. The staff is truly engaged.
Mena is another example of a restaurant that understands the importance of making guests feel special.
Ottawa foodies…we must frequent those establishments that do "service" properly, and constructively educate those that don't. Let the chips fall where they may, and if you're not made to feel special when you dine out, don't return.
BTW, you MUST try the Crullers filled with goat cheese, honey, and lime at Beckta bar menu. At $4 for 3 crullers, they are an epic bargain and the finest desert i've eaten in a long time.
