Freshwater Fish [General]

As someone raised on freshwater fish, I'm always looking for fresh seasonal fish, which don't seem to make it onto restaurant menus in Ottawa often. This pic is of my favorite place for yellow perch, Paula's Fish Place near Point Pelee. The perch is so good I went twice yesterday. I love the fresh sweet taste of lake perch and pickerel, both of which are on offer at the moment. The U.P. of Michigan is home to incredible whitefish, and there are roadside smokers who will sell you a whole whitefish, smoked and wrapped in newspaper for a few bucks.

Is there anyplace in the Ottawa area that serves good perch/pickerel/sturgeon/whitefish this time of year?

BTW there are tons of places for perch down here, but Paula's is the best. Wednesday night special is AYCE perch, fried chicken, hand cut fries, homemade coleslaw and soup for $18. And unlimited fresh brewed iced tea.

would love to be able to get my fix in Ottawa somewhere.

This moved me almost to tears: "Wednesday night special is AYCE perch, fried chicken, hand cut fries, homemade coleslaw and soup for $18. And unlimited fresh brewed iced tea."

I love perch, sadly I haven't found a place for it in the area, last time I had some was in Valleyfield. I can't even recommend fishing for them here... I've caught some in the Ottawa river, but they had parasites :-(

Still, if you want "fresh seasonal fish", nothing beats fishing for it yourself. Lakes in the region tend to have much cleaner water than the Ottawa River. Really fresh fish (straight from the lake to the pan without visiting a fridge) is the best!
