WTB: good non-stick cookware [General]

2012 Mar 3
Every few years something bad happens and one of my good pots gets horribly bent out of shape, left on a burner or just starts to wear out.

I have a set of Farberware Millennium non-stick cookware that has more than served me well for the last 20+ years. The lifetime warranty that was never really held up has probably expired by now. Plus, I've looked at their new line of Millennium cookware and I don't like it.

One of the main reasons I liked the previous line was that there were no rivets inside. The handles were spot welded onto the outside, so that are no intrusions on the interior. I like a good smooth surface. Everything I've been looking at lately has the handles attached with giant rivets that go all the way through.

I don't want specially coated ceramic. I don't want ceramic coated cast iron. I just want a nice set of non-stick steel cookware with a good heat distribution plate on the bottom.

Am I asking too much? I've been searching eBay for the older models and have never found any.

Thanks, but I suppose I needed to specifically mention that I didn't want UNCOATED cast iron as well. I thought I had covered that with the description of what I DID want.

The Dragonlady is tiny and broke her wrist a couple of years ago and has a hard time with heavy pots/pans. Cast iron of any kind is out.

For omelets I have a few PC pans, nice anodized with riveted handles and fairly low cost. I think the small one was about $25 and the large one about $35. They have just the right curvature to flip an omelet and they seem to perform well for the price. They are the only nonstick pans I have. The rest are steel or cast iron.

I have a Jamie Oliver by T-Fal anodized aluminum non-stick sauté pan and I love the heck out of it. It's light enough in the hand to lift and clean easily (I have tendinitis), but cooks super evenly. The manufacturer claims that you can actually use metal utensils on the non-stick finish and put it in the dishwasher, but I've never tried.

Here's a review of the whole set:

I bought mine at The Bay. They aren't cheap but they regularly go on sale for 50-60% off.

Regular mild steel pans like restaurants use (the really cheap ones from Russell) will build up a patina like cast iron and become non stick in the same fashion. And you don't have to worry about funny coatings coming off into your food. I used to think anodized aluminum did not suffer from that until I had one for quite a few years and it started to wear out.

Sorry karey. They look like nice pans, but the criteria are

- no cast iron
- no rivets
- non stick

Otherwise, very much like what you posted. Just without the rivets.
Close, but I'm trying to see if I can find 'perfect'.

Maybe I'll ask them at C.A. Paradis.

This ad is showing up on the left for me - but you should click the ad and not this link so that FF gets the clicks :-)

Diamond nostick cookware! And it is blue to boot!

Even though I can't take that ad seriously (and for only $20, I'm not above giving it a try), I'm looking for a larger set and this only seems to come in the one size.

You're on track though.

Not sure if these works for you since it does have rivets inside:

Zwilling J.A. Henckels Spirit Thermolon frying pans.

Zwilling Spirit frypans feature a revolutionary non-stick ceramic finish that is non-toxic, scratch resistant and safe to 450 degrees celcius. The pans are tri-ply construction with a core of pure aluminum and stainless steel exterior for even heat. Limited lifetime guarantee.

I bought one at the Cookware Center on Bank Street

The one I had before are Lagostina non-stick frying pan but the teflon was scratch within 1 year.

Safe to 450F? That's pretty useless isn't it?

2012 Mar 5
have not tried it but I think it means that you can put it into a 450F oven.

I don't know the specs on the pan in question, but I do believe that FOODTRAVEL states 450 degrees Celcius. That would make more sense that 450 F

I saw some non stick pans in Walmart. Starfrit, they didn't have the rivets
and I think they had 2 sizes. the larger one was on sale for $30.
Since your post I have been checking rivets on pans and I don't really remember the handles.(mine have rivets, but not an issue with me)
I don't think these pans would last 20 years, but I find the coating starts to scratch no matter how careful you are. I don't like to spend a lot of money on non stick, but I do want good stainless steel pans.

the Cookware center did not have as much information but the info at the Bay was better. But the price was higher than it was at the cookware center.

It is 450 Celcius or 850 F

Just before Christmas, I bought a Calphalon wok, with glass lid. It is amazing - absolutely NON-STICK, just wash it out with soapy water and a rag. You can heat it up quite hot. I bought it online through Amazon - UPS delivered it within a couple of days, right to my door. I'm very pleased with this. It has the regular handle plus another smaller handle on the opposite side. I recommend this 100%
