Flavacol is available on Amazon.ca: www.amazon.ca
I get why you'd dig the theatre popcorn experience, but yeah it's pretty artificial. Oh well, enjoy!

Just in case anyone from Ottawa is searching for Flavacol to buy locally, there is a wholesale popcorn supplier that sells to public, Poppacorn, 2660 Lancaster Rd,(800)300-6342.

For popcorn enthusiasts who would like to make the same popcorn sold at theaters like Cineplex, this is what you need:
- Whirley Pop popcorn maker. Sold at Bed, Bath, and Beyond. This is a pot with a crank to stir the popcorn, which works the same way as the popcorn makers in Cineplex theaters.
- Coconut oil. We get it from the organic section at Loblaws.
- Flavacol. The secret ingredient in theater style popcorn. It is a very fine salt with an artificial butter flavour.
- Spreadable butter. A mix of butter and canola oil. We buy Gay Lea Light Spreadable Butter from Metro.
- Corn kernels. We buy Orville's in a plastic jar.

Process:
- Put 3 tablespoons (or more) of coconut oil into Whirley Pop.
- Add half a cup of corn kernels and mix to coat with oil.
- Sprinkle evenly with half a teaspoon of Flavacol (you can add a little more if you prefer salty popcorn, but be careful, you only need very little).
- Turn the stove to medium heat (do not use high heat), on our stove that is 5.5. Start stirring by turning the crank and stop when it is difficult to stir and popping slows (as per Whirley Pop instructions).
- Optional: Melt three tablespoons of spreadable butter and add to finished popcorn as a topping.

Guaranteed same taste as theater style popcorn (depending on what topping you use).

When my wife and brother-in-law went to Syracuse (~3 hours) for shopping, he went to a place called The Popcorn Factory for a friend and purchased 2 containers of Flavacol. They were relatively cheap, I think around $8-10.

His friend, Bruce has since bought 2 more on his visits in Syracuse however he has so far (in over a year) only used 1/2 a container since it is so powerful.

I've tried some of the popcorn, and its pretty good though I wouldn't say it warrants the full trip to Syracuse ;)

Sure, it's:

Salt, artificial flavour, FD&C Yellow #5 Lake (E102), FD&C Yellow #6 Lake (E110)

Not exactly a beautiful list, but if you eat theatre popcorn, that's what you're eating....

I'll definitely sprinkle some at home rather than paying $10 at the movies!

Can you list the ingredients?

It only took a day to arrive and....I had theatre popcorn at home last night! Mind = blown! 3/4 of a teaspoon into the (coconut) oil, and I had fluffy buttery salty theatre popcorn. $4.95 (plus about $5 shipping) VERY well spent! I figure it will take about 5 yaers to get through this stuff!

Thanks so much for asking about this, Fresh Foodie, or I would never had known it existed :)

I sent an email to Wonderland Foods in Mississauga after doing some internet digging. Ordering online from the states is prohibitively expensive, but I got a response from their customer service department within a few hours of sending the email. They will happily mail me as many cartons as I'd like!

They are 35oz containers and are $4.95 plus shipping. If anyone would like to get in on this order, please let me know and we can split the shipping cost. I work downtown, and you could pay for yours when it comes. I will be pre-paying with a credit card.

I ADORE theatre popcorn, and the flavouring is also dairy-free and gluten free. It does have soy though.

Please let me know within the week if you're interested!

I haven't, but if it isn't available here I'd be willing to share an internet order to save on shipping! I would LOVE some of this!
