Foods from Kasbah Village

I've frequented this resto about a handful of times. Each time, I was always pleased with the food.

Last night, I went with a bunch of friends and found the food satisfying but not over-the-top pleasing.

To begin, there were grumblings with the service. Apparently the server (only one was working) was extremely rude to one of my friends from the start. I found the guy to be pleasant enough but was shocked to hear some of the things he had said to her. Anyhow, I digress from my review of the food, but rudeness is important to note in any service industry.

I ordered the Samak tajine (salmon and white fish). The portions of fish were quite generous. The dish came with vegetables (cooked with the fish in the tajine) and a side of couscous. The portion of couscous was very small and three of us were asked to share it so we had to ask for another plate. The Samak was quite good and filling. Two of us ordered the Samak, another ordered the vegetable tajine, another had the chicken tajine, and another ordered the salmon kabobs.

While it was delicious, I recall that it was better in the past …but I usually order the tajine with the lamb, beef and chicken mix.

I finished my meal (no appetizers or desserts this time) with some lovely mint tea. I love it at this resto. Fresh mint leaves steeped in hot water; add a cube of sugar - perfection!

Overall, the meal was fine but as a result of the poor service (to be fair, it was not directed at me), it unfortunately shadowed some of the experience. For this reason, I'm not sure we'll be coming back any time soon.

Still, for nice healthful Moroccan cuisine, the KV is a good place to dine.

Ms Piggy, was the food unusually sweet even for Moroccan standards? It's normal for there to be fruit in Moroccan meat dishes, and raisins and dates are particularly sweet. I'm not fond of sweetness in main dishes even though I recognize that to be a characteristic of authentic Moroccan food.

Four of us went there on Sat nite around 7:30.
Quiet, only 4 tables filled by the time we got there.

My friends ordered: 2 tagine dishes (cooked in an earthware)
Lamb & almond & dates: it’s overly sweet.
Lamb & Veggies: salty taste, not bad.
I ordered: chicken, veggies, raisins and saffron on the couscous, I found its sweet too.
Other friend had: grilled beef skewer on the couscous. He said it was okay.

Overall, it’s not impressive, and the service was extremely SLOW although only few ppl there… don’t think we will go back again.

Coming here is a treat. Although it's conveniently located on Laurier, I often forget about it.

Eating moroccan food always makes me feel healthy. The food here is quite good. I love the dishware upon which it is served -- particularly the tajines.

The often have specials which include an appetizer, main and a dessert -- quite spectacular.

The dishes are always fresh and hot. The service is nice.

Try the mint tea! Fresh moroccan mint seeped in hot water. Add a few pieces of sugar and it is simply satisfying to all senses.
