I had the joy of heading to Casa Mexico on Friday and I was happy to find a little gem in this strip mall on Merivale.

Located in the former Passport Cafe, Casa Mexico is a family run Authenthic Mexican Cantina worth checking out!

They offer fresh homemade Mexican food that tastes like you are in Mexico. The casual, fun, colourful, and musical location really does feel like a Cantina in Mexico.

The menu had lots of great offerings - I could hardly choose. After hearing great things about the Tortilla Soup I had to try it and certainly was not disappointed. It was definitely the best tortilla soup I have ever eaten in both Canada and in Mexico! It had a light broth with chunks of tomato, fresh avocado, queso, fried tortilla strips, sour cream, and real chicarones (pork rinds - get them on the side to preserve crispiness :P). It was absolutely delicious.

The gordita was also delicious - hand made corn crust/shell filled with fresh ingredients; lettuce, queso, green onion and more - I opted for the pork version which was deliciously spiced. The mole taco was flavourful and simple, great taste profile despite its simplicity (caution the mole contains nuts) and I am excited to try some of the other options! They served red and verde salsa on the side.

We had Margarita's to complement the meal and they also had a great selection of Mexican Beer, as well as other Mexican fav's like Jarrito's Soda, Sangria, Horchata, and one of my favourite Mexican Beer cocktails called a Michelada con Tajin which is basically beer with fresh lime juice and a salted spice mix called Tajin that is every where in Mexico! Believe me I will be back for one of those Babies while I try and dream away Ottawa winter LOL!

I took some Tres Leches Cake to go because I was way to full but it was also amazing. They had several other delicious looking desserts :) Definitely a great lunch spot and a fun place for a casual night out with friends and tasty beverages.
