I find The French Baker to be pretty mediocre, to be honest, and their pastry selection very limited as well as expensive for what you get! I quite enjoy the baked goods at Wild Oat, Second Ave Sweets and Stella Luna - though none would qualify as fine French patisserie.

The French Baker is pretty French (and in the Glebe)

Was very excited to see a new French patisserie spring up where Truffle Treasures used to be in the Glebe. However, the pastry and baklava selection looked very familiar to me and when I asked the girl behind the counter if this was in fact a Lebanese bakery, she confirmed that it was, and it is owned by the same folks who own Sweet Castle which is located at 2446 Bank St. She said it was "French too" but could not provide more details about French influences or culinary training- in fact, it's the same selection of pastry as what is on offer at the Sweet Castle, which is branded as Lebanese.

I ordered a strawberry cream puff and a Fererro Rocher macaron, but the pastry for the former was soggy, and the macaron had been kept in the fridge for too long. I would not visit again - there are already so many Lebanese bakeries in the city, including two others in the Glebe/Old Ottawa South. Disappointed not to have a real French bakery in this part of town.
