Wellington Gastropub [Food/Vendor]

2006 Dec 10
Well hi again,
I was thinking of trying it but was curious if anyone had tried it or know much about it. I've noticed that the work on the gastropub has finally finished and it looks to be opened. I checked out their menu, while it looks like the dinner menu is comparablw to a place like Beckta's (at least in price) their lunch menu is particularly good and at a great price. Their beer seems to be microbrewery and wine selection seems decent if not somewhat expensive (for such a small restaurant and so relatively new).
So has anyone tried the food yet? it looks interesting to say the least.

We were thinking of trying it a few weeks ago; stopped in, and left. They were _packed_, with quite a wait for a table, and nothing looking so appealing as to persuade us to wait. Really loud, and bordering on so trendy as to make me suspicious of the food quality.

Don't let that prevent you from going -- just hit it on a less popular night.

I have been twice now - once for dinner over a month ago now and once for lunch a couple of weeks ago. The food is really good - though portion sizes are not large. Yes it it busy - reservations are a really good idea. Wine list is excellent as is beer list. This is not a typical "pub" - i.e. no TVs, sports paraphernalia, beer company swag. It is all about the food and drink. I definitely recommend this place - just be prepared to wait for a table or hang out in the bar area if you don't have reservations.

I went there for dinner with colleagues -- DELICIOUS. Had the steak. Their wine list is fantastic, they also have great beer and a beer of the day special which is nice (most micro-brewed). It's a 'high end' pub -- if that's a descriptive term. The bread they serve is made downstairs by a private baker (I don't remember the name).

I highly recommend it.

Hi Cupcake! I too enjoyed the Wellington Gastropub. The atmosphere, service, food and wine made for a very enjoyable evening. I also had the steak which I enjoyed although I would have enjoyed it even more if they had chosen a more flavourful cut of beef but, it was still DELICIOUS.

Great addition to the Wellington area!

Hello Cupcake -- I think you're having identity issues since I'm Twinkie. Either way, it was good -- so we agree on that.

Went with a friend for dinner this past week. Started off selecting wine at the bar. Barman was great, made me try a couple no questions asked. Moved on to our reserved table, great service and very friendly staff. We asked for a sauce recipe and the Chef came out to run us through it. He's the former chef at Eighteen. Highly recommend trying it!
