Dessertfest June 11-12 2016 [Events]

I was trying to figure out what desserts Milano pizza had and remembered they have dessert pizza w nutella and fruit.
-have not been tempted to try it yet.
But if u go to an actual Milano pizza place get the deep fried St Albert cheese curds, sold by 200 gram or 400 gram size.
They are really good and come with a tomato dip sauce.
I've prob had desserts from half the places shown here, so not too sure if I will go.
None of my friends want to go,so might just walk over to the bakery beside my house where I have not tried much stuff yet.

I read on the website that a lot of vendors will have smaller portions and you have to pay by tickets and a sheet of tickets is $20- with each ticket worth .50 cents.
But it is not clear how much food will cost or the kinds of items to expect.
I really hate when food events do not have a lot of info available.
I guess it is the first year for this event.
I think I might "settle" for a visit to a local cake shop and/or the sushi buffet- the one near me has really good desserts (and ayce lunch is just $15......).

Someone should attend as the famous dessert critic Cilla Bubb.
I saw their video ad online, and it appears that women are the only ones who get excited about dessert.

If you did not have to pay for admission, I might be more tempted or if some of the admission went to a good cause-
*Kind of like that all you can sample chocolate-fest that was this winter.
(I did not go, but was very tempted...transportation was an issue for me...).
I like desserts, but it is almost like what have I not tried yet?
Fairouz has some modern takes on arabic desserts, but they are not attending (why would they also).
Holland's Cake and Shake- they are neat, a bit far for me,but I surely want to try some more cakes and the soft serve (they are also not there-not surprized, they are a very small shoppe).
Also seeing that it is Ramadan and a weekend, I am sure Malak pastry will have some special holiday desserts if you go to their bakery.
-I have no idea what they are or what they are called, but they are not things they make often.
-also the only place in the city where you can buy Ashta icecream,I have asked tons of people and the only answers I get is it is usually make at home or more popular in other countries.
I guess I will wait till Sun to decide if I do go,hoping there might be something interesting to try.
But considering I do make some candies, cookies and desserts myself,I will wait to hear more about this event.

Samples were generally ~ 2-4 tickets (50 cents to 2$) a bit more for larger samples, cake/cupcakes, donuts, chocolate, dessert bars, cookies etc... I liked the selection of vendors, layout could be improved, loved the table and macarons from Signature/Cordon Bleu great presentation and friendly chefs, used most of my tickets there for the macarons flavours included raspberry, chocolate, coffee, vanilla, pistachio etc... sampled a few and got a box of 5. Would be tempted to take their macaron demo when it comes up again.

FT - Thanks for the recommendation:) I'm tottally gonna try the Cordon Bleu macaron class:)
Desserts - what was special and different was that they were mini sizes and many vendors in one spot for sampling and some very good looking and tasty desserts. Room for improvement on ambiance and decor (like the tulip festival for instance this spring created a magical space with indoor gardens, nice booths, stage, etc...). However cost was very good and some tables were great! (the cake and cupcake spots, Greek pastry, Cordon Bleu and the mini Dutch pancake place). The prices were very reasonable, 10-13$ entrance, cost of ticket sheet was 20$ for 40 tickets (50 cent value per ticket). Mini cupcakes, cookies, bars ranged between equivalent of 50 cents to 2$. The Cordon Bleu macaron were as I noted my favourite:))) 4 tickets each (2$) or 18 tickets for a box of 5 (9$) which IMO is a great deal for such a high quality product, plus not sure they sell these regularly in an outlet or online (but if they do let me know that would be an awesome thing to have:))) I tried a few places in Paris and the Ottawa Cordon Bleu ones were top notch in particular the raspberry ones:)))

Hey LF,
Next Macarons class is on Sat Nov 5th. They had a dessert one a while ago that had Macarons and some other small sweets but I don't see it now. I am still keeping my eye on the sushi one July 16.
