Fresh Garlic Scapes? [General]

2015 Jul 12
May have missed the season but does anyone know where you can get some reasonably priced ones, enough to make some pesto? Preferably local but not necessary.

We bought a small bunch last week that had like 4 scapes in total in the bunch at Parkdale and found them way overpriced to buy enough to make some scape pesto.

I hope someone proves me wrong but I suspect the local scapes have ended with this dry and hot weather. I picked the last straggling few of mine yesterday, after the main varieties were picked last week, and they were a bit hard, one inedible. My first picking was June 24, Music garlic, and that garlic is just starting to die back now.

They had some really nice ones at Nicastro's on Bank Street last Tuesday. I can't remember the price but my friend bought some and really enjoyed them.

At the Carp farmer's market on Saturday, there was one place that had big bags of them for something like $5/pound.

Both Farm Boy and Rainbow in Britannia had them as of Saturday. I don't remember the prices (maybe $1.50 per bag?)

Thanks will checkout Farm Boy and if I can't find them, Carp next week.

Produce Depot on Carling Ave had them about 3 weeks ago but I'm not sure if they still do. I think the pricing was around $1.99/lb. I picked up a large bag then and they are still holding up well in the fridge.

Found these babies just the other day at the West-End Well by Wellington/Somerset. Super Fresh and Uber Local.

West-End Well really does have some great produce.

Got a huge bag at Landsdowne Farmer's Market this past weekend.

Saw those too at Lansdowne, but I can not eat garlic.

I did buy beets and radishes. The leaves on my radishes were better than the radishes that were hard and almost inedible...
