Melton Mowbray Pork Pie [General]

Does anyone know where I can these in Ottawa. Years ago Marks & Spencer carried them and not so long ago I could a P.C. one at Loblaws. The owners of The English Pie Shoppe don't make them because they are too much work. Thanks!

I think you have to go to Melton Mobray to get the real deal. I also have not seen them since Marks and Sparks closed. A friend bought me a good pork pie from Hartman's once. These days I get my pork pies from the grocery store in a Kemptville after a Foodie recommendation. Try the scotch eggs too!

I echo what Tree Pug has to say.
Melton Mobray pork pie will get protection with the implementation of the free trade deal with Europe I suppose. The pork pies at B&H Your Community Grocer now B&H Independant Food Town are not Melton Mobray but are more traditional English pork pies and certainly worthwhile checking them out W.C. We remain fans of all the meat pies - they are even better than they used to be.

My mom used to make a fantastic Melton Mowbray pork pie. I took a photo of her recipe when I visited recently. It's a bit hard to read (even at full resolution) but I'd be happy to transcribe it if anyone is interested.

Provocative preview: it uses pork feet and bones to make the delicious jelly that fills the gaps between pork cubes! :D

I don't know how I missed this thread before! Thanks everyone, looks like I will make a trip to Kemptville before hubby's birthday. I'm sure it will take less time than making it from scratch! Here is a link for a recipe that might be easier to read than Fresh Foodies recipe..www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/meltonmowbrayporkpie_92224
