For those who have mentioned the need for an OF badge to recognize other foodies in the same establishment - i've recently found the app "Foursquare" which allows you to "check in" to any place, including restaurants, leave comments, tips, etc... It tells you if other people are checked in at the same time as you. Either write "OF" with your user name, or use an OF logo as your profile picture, and there you go... just an idea.

Great suggestion! I use Foursquare almost obsessively and it's perfectly suited for this purpose. However, it's probably enough to simply recognize people you know from OF rather than having to explicitly state that you're from OF or use a logo.

I'm guessing the vast majority of people don't like the idea of random strangers walking up to them and chatting. For the minority of us who get a kick out of these connections there is Foursquare! If you only want to bump into OF people then don't add non-OF people as friends.

Foursquare was quite useful for me in Portugal and Spain for scoping out restaurants. People there seem to use it a little more than we do here.

I rather liked the badge/avatar idea myself.

A bit surprised you don't "own" more foodie places Mark!

Well I just checked my foursquare history and ashamed to see McDonald's and KFC in the recent checkins. I'm most dreadfully embarassed.
