reccomendation for Kansas City [Travel]

Looking for some recommendations for Kansas City. We'll be there this weekend for 4 days, staying near the convention center downtown, so we're looking for some places within walking distance or a short cab ride. We're especially excited about trying some BBQ - so some recommendations for that would be awesome!!

Hey Kay - Kansas City has really cleaned up its downtown from the old Industrial days - there are lots of good places downtown and around . One place I visited many times is an old local favorite that has been around for 50 years. The Hereford House herefordhouse.com/index.html Not fancy but some great steaks. KC has some very good BBQ - not like Texas where the BBQ sauce is strong and spicy - KC BBQ tends to be sweeter. They use alot of Side Ribs vs Back Ribs and they usually come to your table Dry. It was noted that "KC has more than 100 barbecue restaurants and is the "world's barbecue capital." Places that are good that I tried were Arthur Byrant www.arthurbryantsbbq.com
BBs - great Blues after 9pm or so if I remeber

And a few others that I can not recall

Stroud's Fried chicken is among the best I've had and definitely worth what can sometimes be a long wait:

JDK is right to suggest hereford house too. The meat is great and there is a weird mural over the urinals in the men's room of dead cows in the stockyards after the fire.

I would add Lamar's donuts:

and if you are into dinnerware, silver, crystal etc. Hall's department store has a really good selection of stuff you don't see in Ottawa:
