Good dessert places? [Food/Vendor]

2006 Nov 21
I received an email today from a visitor to this site asking for recommendations for good dessert places. Sometimes you just want a slice of cake and a shot of espresso to round out your evening.

We all know about "Oh So Good" of course. I never found their cakes to be very good (but I only tried a couple of them). And of course there are all the ice cream and gelato places.

Regular restaurants often frown on people dropping in only for dessert, especially if it isn't very late (e.g. 8:00pm).

So where can one go for excellent desserts and coffee without breaking unwritten rules of diner etiquette?

As long as you don't have your heart set on a fancy slice of triple-truffle macadamia cake or suchlike, I'd say Planet Coffee in the market. They've got a great selection of squares and bars, cookies and coffeecakes--everything's made on the premises, everything I've tried has been excellent (mmm, chocolate cream cheese brownie!), and it's a lot cheaper than dessert in any restaurant. Also some of the best espresso in Ottawa and a cool atmosphere. Don't know what their evening hours are, though--I tend to drink my coffee in the afternoon!

Oh nice! I've heard nothing but good things about Planet Coffee, so I'll have to check this out. Thanks!

I noticed that this webpage (www.coffeecrew.com) says Planet Coffee uses coffee beans from our local company, Equator. Interesting, as I was just about to add Equator as a vendor on OttawaFoodies.

Fresh Foodie...just noticed this post. When you find yourself back on your feet...be sure to try the banana spring rolls at TJ Pagoda's for dessert! That is how I wrapped up my session there (I was levelled!). I know that you are planning to test the place out...this is one of dishes that took me to the next level.
