Japanese market/store? [Food/Vendor]

We just returned from a week in Japan, and I am not sure I can last until May (when we get to go back) to eat some of the delicious foods we enjoyed.

I've never really shopped in Ottawa's Chinatown, and don't know if a Japanese place might be there. I haven't even googled it yet - just found this wonderful site (thanks!!) and thought I'd post the question...

Hi.. thanks and welcome! I know there *used* to be a cute little Japanese grocery store on Somerset (east of Bronson). Kowloon Market (in Chinatown, Somerset West of Bronson) has a whole shelf full of Japanese products.

Google also tells me that there's a Japanese grocery store on Slater: www.japaninottawa.ca/kaedeya/

It is owned by the same company that owns Suisha Gardens (C'est Japon à Suisha) and is right next door to it.

Also, if you're looking for authentic cuisine, I understand the Japanese Embassy takes guests to Ichibei (Ichibei ). We're big fans of Genji (Genji) here too.

Yum, thanks Mark! Now my tummy is growling.
I think we will have to make this a stop, soon.

Just read your bio - thanks for this site! And we head to Victoria in two weeks - plan to do some eating there, too! Lunn's Bakery in Sidney has the best ginger tarts, I am addicted!

Hi there--there's a great Korean grocer (Arum) on Bank near Catherine which has practically any Japanese product you could need. It's my source for frozen BBQ eel, soba noodles, umeboshi, and those tasty fish-and-seaweed flakes for rice, as well as ordinary stuff like miso or rice vinegar. There's also a very good Korean restaurant attached. They make a fine pork bone soup!

Thanks for the info Duckfat! I copied your message over as a comment for Arum Arum -- hope you don't mind.

You remind me that I should drop by there and pick up some red pepper powder so I can take a stab at making kimchi.
