Chocolate outperforms Benylin [Science]

More good news for chocolate lovers re: health benefits! It seems the theobromine in chocolate (especially dark chocolate) is superior to codeine as an antitussive (cough suppressant). They say it works by partially numbing the action of the vagus nerve connecting the brain to cardiopulmonary organs. Recent research has shown that the DM-based cough syrups don't really do much anyway, so this is good news. You can read more here: www.chocolate.org

Of course they have the standard disclaimer that you should talk to your doc before self-medicating with chocolate but yeah whatever. I'm eating President's Choice Dark "Suisse" chocolate to spare coworkers from the worst of my annoying cough. The alternative would be to compensate them for putting up with the cough by sharing the chocolate with them. Screw that! ;-)

Hi,
I think there is not even a single harm beside gum problem in enjoying the chocolate.
I also heard about an article which found chocolate to be helpful in keeping away heart attack.
