Toaster Recommendation [General]

2008 Nov 12
As my toaster has expired, I am looking for help in choosing a new toaster. Considering a Dualit or Krupp's or something semi commercial as I am tired of replacing my toaster every 2 to 3 years. Anyone own a Dualit? Reviews online are quite mixed. I will consider all posts.

Thanks

I came by this toaster a while ago, and thought it was the coolest toaster I had ever seen. Unfortunately, right now there is no North American version (electrical) available, but it may make your day if you live in Europe!

It toasts, it defrosts frozen bread.. it probably makes your coffee too, all the while looking fabulous. Does England just like toast more than us?

If you're thinking Dualit, you might want to check out Green Beanery. They have a vast selection.

I wish I had gone for a longer-slotted toaster like the Dualit Lite. My KitchenAid does a fine job, has nice wide slots for bagels, and toasts to perfection...but I'd like to slice a mini baguette lengthwise and toast it (with the smallest bit of truncation).
Tip: For anyone that packs a sandwich for lunch, I highly recommend making it with TOASTED BREAD, then wrap it in wax paper (very important! NOT plastic) and then into a container. It keeps its shape and doesn't get soggy. It's way, WAY better.

This site is worth a look. A superb well-organized collection of 600 very cool toasters from around the world.
Ohhhhh, the Maybaum 581 UFO toaster (photo).

We bought a great toaster a few years back at CA Paradis... designed by Porsche made by Toastmaster. At the time it was on sale as I think Toastmaster had been bought out and the name was changing. We got a smokin' deal at half off, but it has been the best toaster we have ever had. I think we paid just under $200.

After further research I discovered the Dualite lite is made in China...and does not have the same workmanship as the regular one made in Britain....Opted for a basic Cuisinart for the 3 year warranty.
