We hadn't been to Hintonburger in a while and were in fast food mode. I also wanted to go to the GT Boutique, so why not get 2 birds stoned at once?

After carefully making our selections and waiting the usual 15-20 minute time-frame (only 2 other customers in the restaurant) Our food was ready.

The Fat-Cat (Which is really what I came for) was tasty and just as expected. The corn Dog coating at Hintonburger is not your typical Pogo batter, it is a little heavier and features Italian seasoning... I almost feel like it channels falafel flavour a little bit! The lester dog inside was juicy and it went really well with the offered honey mustard. 5$ for this baby was well worth it. I also had a small strawberry shake (10 oz for $3.50) and it was tasty but quite small. Perfect size for me but others may be disappointing.

My SO had the Hintonburger combo with Poutine. That's 15$ +3$ for poutine upgrade. The Burger itself was really tasty just over medium grilled just so with nice toppings etc... that bun though.

Le sigh. For the price tag I would love to see these guys team up with like Bread by Us or Art-is-in or at least some kind of real life bakery because this bun can't stand up to the topping and well to be honest it's just your typical white bread grocery story Betty type bun. Bun rant over.

The poutine was generously curded with crisp fries, gravy had nice flavour, not too salty but could have been a smidgen hotter.

We were definitely full after leaving and thinking about my Fat-Cat makes me want another but the 35$+ pricetag for a "fast food" dinner for 2 is still a little high in my books. (I'd stomach it better with a delightful bakery grade bun to indulge my burger whim).

Thanks very much Hintonburger for your generous contribution to the Connaught Public School Stone Soup fundraiser!

First time eating the so called "veggie burger" at this place and i certainly would not recommend it to anyone. Way too greasy as it is deep fried..a falfel is much better and not oozing in grease.
the sweet potatoe fries were cold.
I really do not know what the hype is about this place as you can certainly get better burger at Harvey's. In my opinion they have the best veggie burgers in town and they also serve them in a whole wheat bun!

I visited here in the summer after hearing about the hype for long enough. The veggie patty sounded very exciting to me, since I've never had a chickpea burger before (if you don't include falafels). I can't say I enjoyed it as much as I hoped I would. It was deep fried, so super heavy in the stomach, but not supremely flavourful. Veggie burgers made from beans often have textural issues and this one was no exception. Though better than some, it quickly turned to mush.

Something was definitely off about the fries the day I dined there. I love seasonal salt on fries, but half of mine were undercooked to the point of being hard. I thought maybe it was just one or two, until I asked my fellow diners and they said theirs were the same.

Would I go back? Maybe if I was in the area, but I wouldn't make a special trip again.

Strike 2! Well at least this time the burger patty wasn't charred/burnt but the fries were still soggy/undercooked and the buns boring!

I don't understand why the Hburger doesn't team up with Art-is-in Bakery to create something worth hype? Of course there sill are the fries...maybe they could get some help from a chip wagon near by?

Well I won't be back....

On the first visit patties were falling apart and ingredients on one burger were completely wrong. Fries were average, long wait.

Second visit was last month and pretty much same story with the patties.

Focusing on the details might save this place.
ie properly formed patties, double fried fries (with the second frying being to order), consistent buns (conveyor toaster?) and proper topping portions.

I also don't understand the hype. I have been twice, the first time the burger was bland and fries soggy/old. Second time the fries were again limp and the corn dog was inedible. It tasted like grease and the breading had an overpowering dry spice taste (sage or thyme perhaps).

You do have to wait a little while for your food but you can also call in and place an order for pickup.

Burgers are good, onion rings are crispy. Chilly dog was alright, the chilly didn't have enough flavour, it was kind of just tomatoey.

I recommend checking it out and forming your own opinion. Support local business. :)

I'm really not sure what the hype's about? A bunch of us tried the Hintonburger the other day and we were all very disappointed.

After what seemed like a long wait, we were greeted with half cooked fries (worse than any fast food chain) and over cooked patties with boring crappy buns (what happened to 'local'??).

Perhaps my expectations were too high but my buddies confirmed my disappointment.

I'll give them a second chance....some day, but only one! Sad really, to experience something that has all the ingredients to be really good, only to find it to be second rate!

We tried this place some time when the kids were taking gymnastics (Winter Session...but don't remember much snow)

Since the place was closing at what seemed a little bit early for a food place, my husband dropped us off and drove over to order the food.

We liked that we knew the hamburger was made of local beef, and the variety of toppings. However, for the size of the patty, lackluster bun, and the price, I'd probably won't be going there too often.

Plus, the fries and the onion rings were just not what I was expecting from a place that boasts "Fresh, Local, Handmade". It looked more like fries you would get at grocery store and fry up yourself. A little more effort in this department might amp up hype for Hintonburger.

If I'd go again, it'll probably be just for the hamburger.

The fries are good but not great. They seem to be slightly coated (see the bubbling on each?). Perhaps it is just how they fried? I prefer the Five Guys fries where they are soggier and more chewy in the middle.

A 'value' size of the fresh cut fries. I've sprayed with vinegar (no cider or malt unfortunately) and sprinkled seasoning on them. Ketchup on the side for dippin'.

Slightly soft, slightly crisp. Skins on.

Diagram of my burger. The bacon was great. Fresh toppings. It's not a gourmet burger, but simple and tasty.

The "Hintonburger"

'6oz bacon cheeseburger with signature bbq sauce'

I found the patty was greasy, but really good. A nice 'meaty' taste to the patty. Not too thick, not too thin.

Hintonburger's veggie burger is a falafel burger. light on the inside and crunchy on the outside.

Bun leaves something to be desired, but the burger is worth it.

Pretty smoky in there at lunch so I still smell like burgers. Good thing I don't need to sit close to anyone at work :)

I had my first Hintonburger experience today. I ordered the Armstrong with cheese. It is the 4oz patty. I asked for all the dressings which was tomato, lettuce, onions, hot peppers, mayo, ketchup and mustard. I thoroughly enjoyed it. The patty was juicy and nicely grilled on the outside. The bun was the right size: not too thick, not too thin. Yes, one of the best burgers in town!

The fries were ok. I am not sure about the outside texture. It seems coated with something although I can't tell what. I prefer the Five Guys fries.

I will definitely be back for the burger. I can't believe it took me this long to have one!!!

I've started second guessing my love of Hintonburger, since the last 2 times I've been, the burgers haven't been must-eat-this-immediately, don't-care-if-I-look-like-cookie-monster delicious. They were decently-good, but the fries were definitely mediocre.

Captain Caper's post makes me want to go a few more times to confirm/deny my suspicions, but I've definitely caught myself wanting to venture to Beech St Burger instead, after my first delightful visit.

I guess this is a post that is: to be continued...

THE Hintonburger is still king (in my hood).

(I sometimes think the bun should be up-graded from the foamy one they use .... but when I'm woofing the burger down, that thought quickly disappears.)

Onion rings are the classic chip wagon style.

Nice to mix sriracha hot sauce with ketchup to dip the rings in.

Visited for the second time today and, contrary to my first time, had the scorched, overcooked experience that others have mentioned. :-(

This burger was just plain bad. Some parts were so blackened that the bitterness made me wince and make spitting noises. Unbelievable, considering how amazingly good the other one I had there was! It was my wife's first visit and she was not at all impressed. (quote: "A Big Mac is better than this -- at least it's consistent and the flavours are balanced." -- they had also put way more mustard than ketchup in hers.)

Until they figure out their quality control problems I have no reason to return.

This time the salt wasn't in a parmesan shaker, so there's evidence that they do make improvements! :-)

Oh My!! I finally tried one of these and I really think it might be the best burger in Ottawa. Loaded with bacon and a nicely seasoned medium-cooked patty, this is a masterpiece.

Lots of toppings to choose from -- including pickled turnips. Major win there! See the pretty pink pickle peeking from my under my patty? As any shawarma aficionado will tell you, pickled turnips go very well with seasoned beef.

I think the best way to describe it is using what I consider to be the second and third best burgers in town right now. It is like a cross between Vera's Burger Shack's backyard style burger with Baja Burger Shack's wonderfully seasoned and tender patty.

I have been to Hintonburger many times (my daughter favorite) she loves the corn dogs and I'd agree with her, they are delish. The burgers not so much. What does set this burger joint apart is the staff, they are incredibly friendly.

Went again yesterday and if you are into corndogs, Hintonburger's is the best. Hand dipped and fried to order, so it's a much different experience than a frozen pogo. Did not enjoy my burger as much as usual though, as it was overcooked and on the dry side for my taste, although the flavor was still good. Off day maybe.
