Foods from Kallisto

Since I drive by the location often, I watched this restaurant come to life in late 2008 and early 2009 and anticipated its opening. Ottawa's Blossom Park area has few restaurants so Kallisto was a welcome addition to the neighborhood! I've been multiple times and for the most part, each visit has been good.

This restaurant is a part of a strip mall located at Bank and Queensdale. But don't let the outside fool you. It's a quaint little treasure! The atmosphere has a modern Mediterranean feel and is bright and cheerful. You really feel welcome once you step through the door.

The menu boasts Greek delicacies from traditional appetizers, to lamb, chicken and beef dishes as well as vegetarian and seafood ones. There's really something for everyone.

Meals at Kallisto start with a basket of pita, fresh and fried. Everytime I go I wish there was a dip togo with the pita.

I've had the Saganaki, a pan-browned Greek cheese flambéed with brandy. It's delicious! And impressive!

I've tried the Loukaniko - it's a sausage appetizer that is yummy and tangy.

The Greek salad is great. Consistently fresh and yummy. They make their own dressing and you can buy some to take home. It's really, really good.
The feta tastes so fresh, I could easily have enjoyed twice as much! You can also buy some of it and bring it home.

I've had the souvlaki. It's served with rice, potatoes and garlicky yummy tzatziki. The souvlaki seasoning is tasty. The tzatziki is fresh and tangy - not too rich but full of richness. I've tasted the chicken and lamb. Both good. They will also substitute the rice for veggies if you ask. O've had overcooked rice on only one occasion

The Greek Cavatappi is a simple tomato-sauce dish with artichokes, olives, shrimp and feta. It's a pasta dish. I wouldn't have it again. It didn't stand out.

I've tried the regular Moussaka and the Vegetarian Moussaka. The veggie one is by far my favorite dish here.

I've had an ever-so-light piece of tiramisu here and Baklava. Both good.

The food is always nicely presented. The service is alway absolutely wonderful.

They also offer takeout if you don't have time to sit and enjoy the experience.

The diner I usually visit this place with has had the steak a few times and it has never been great. The cut has been tough on both occasions.

The prices are reasonable, the location convenient, the parking plenty and free.
