I ordered the pesto cream penne for takeout and it was pretty good. I wish the sauce was a little thicker that it actually coated the penne properly.

Really expensive though and not enough pasta. I have lots of chicken leftover which I am not sure what to make with it.

OF course will return, but may not order this particular dish for a take-out.

Mmmmj, you are right on the kobe beef sliders @ milestones. most non-upscale places that advertise kobe beef on the menu regularly i say to myself "that is bull$#!t!"

i love kobe beef and i know it has a lingering, exquisite and rich umami aftertaste. i've tried the "kobe" beef sliders and they are tasteless. i've seen kobe beef steak for $50 / 10oz at butchers.

in the past i've worked at a resto which featured kobe beef burgers and the kitchen recipe called for dilution - 40% kobe beef 60% ground beef. they still called them kobe beef burgers. it still tasted pretty good but i could tell the difference.

i can assure you that milestone's may be some low % kobe beef content and the rest is filler.

i do like the kobe beef meatloaf that's on milestone's menu but for such a honkin' piece, there is absolutely no way that that is all kobe beef. no need to bother asking the servers, they aren't trained on ingredients well enough, if at all.

Last time I went to Milestone's the bill had a survey that needed to be completed in order to receive a free appetizer (with the purchase of an entree) on my next visit to the restaurant.

Of course I completed it, it only took 5 minutes and true to their word, I got a free appetizer this time.

My friend actually ordered an appetizer as her meal which was the kobe beef sliders. They didn't look that great and she only ate 2 of them. For some reason I don't think that it is truly kobe beef. I can't comment on the taste though as I did not try them.

I ordered the vegetarian burger with cheddar. I asked for the california salad instead of fries or the garden, and it cost me an extra $2. Well worth it. The burger is good here. Probably one of my favourite veg burgers in the city.

The service was excellent. Our server was quite attentive and had no problem with us only buying the one entree.

When the bill came, it was very reasonable and it actually had another survey to complete for my next visit. Such a great promotion. Not sure why anyone would not complete the survey as you need not provide your name or contact information while completing it.

As you know, I love Milestone's and will continue to go back. I usually always go to Pinecrest so perhaps it is the service here that makes it such a nice dining experience for me each time.

grilled seafood salad @ milestone's - grilled tiger shrimp, west coast salmon, marinated shrimp, fresh avocado, papaya, roasted Italian tomatoes, crisp noodles, lemon-chardonnay vinaigrette. milestone's is hit or miss depending on the menu item. sometimes compensated by often sexy, pleasant and make-you-feel-good staff. average fair with the odd spark of interesting ingredient or side but has the feel of being dumbed down for the masses, resulting in wait for it... MASS APPEAL. very busy chain that's part of the kelsey's/montana's/outback family of restos run by cara foods. this dish satisfies the health sufficiency and is LARGE with all the flavors, textures, and variety that pretty much leaves no room for anything else. no regrets for this one.

It seems as though I tend to become supervised by those who enjoy Milestones.

We (four of us) came here for lunch today. The service was better than last time, for certain.

Notable is a new addition to the lunch menu: A Lunch Trio featuring soup (today's was roasted red pepper and tomato), salad (caesar or garden; go with the caesar) and a half of their three signature cibattas (chicken/avocado, turkey/smoked bacon, portobello/goat cheese) for only $11. If you're indecisive or want a bit of everything, it's a good route to take.

I have to say I don't understand the bad rep on here. I've always had consistently good service here. The servers are attentive and usually very knowledgeable about the wines and offer good recommendations. The food, while not amazing, is good, and portions are usually decent.

There is a good selection of wines and cocktails. While a tad overpriced, I still return.

Normally, I don't frequent chains but I was treating a friend to a birthday lunch and let him choose.

This was my first visit to Milestone's. It reminded me very much of Earl's-which Ottawa doesn't have.

It was quite busy for a late lunch on a Friday. We were greeted by enthusiastic hostesses and promptly seated in a booth.

The menu covers a broad spectrum making it a decent option when you are uncertain of someone's food likes.

I ordered a Grilled Seafood Salad and my friend had a Thai Chicken roll-up with side salad. My salad was quite good as one should expect for $18.99. It came with grilled salmon, whole grilled shrimps and diced shrimp, avocado, papaya, crispy noodles and mixed greens. I ordered the dressing on the side on which they delivered.

My friend thoroughly enjoyed his thai wrap- I'm not sure how discerning his tastes are but he said it was "so good."

We shared a piece of white chocolate cheesecake for dessert. Nice presentation, very rich. Each of us had a couple of bites and then had it packaged to go.

Service was a bit of a let down. Obviously, we arrived post lunch rush where many servers were being put "on hold." Although pleasant, it seems as though our server was more concerned with leaving as she didn't "quality check us"- fortunately everything was fine, nor did she let us know that another server was taking over.

We waited quite a while to order dessert. The new server was very good despite the poor transition.

Having been a server, one would expect slightly better from this higher end chain. I know that serving jobs at Earl's in Winnipeg are competitive

My friend and I met up here recently after work.

We started with a couple of Mojitos. Not bad, but not the greatest ones I have had.

We thought instead of ordering a meal, we would just share a few appetizers.

We ordered;

Spinach and Artichoke Dip - It was okay, but I think it is a little played out. Probably won't be getting it again.

Crispy Asian Chicken Bites - Delicious. The chicken was moist and they were perfectly sauced. I will definitely order these again. I have had this exact same dish somewhere else but not sure where.

Spring California Salad - Hands down my favourite salad in the city. The mix of the pecans with the goat cheese and strawberry. YUM! I will however ask them to go easy on the dressing because it was a little too much for my taste.

Our waiter was very pleasant. Made recommendations and was very attentive.

I like Milestones and I often go here when we can't decide on anything in particular.

Remember how I said I'd go back if I had a large crowd in need of pleasing...I ate my words.

We went after our ultimate game to the Pinecrest location, and arrived around 8. Now, I wasn't expecting a fine dining experience, given that we were a)soaking wet and b)somewhere between exercise clothes and jeans in our attire. That said, the experience was pretty atrocious.

We waited about 15 minutes for a table, even though there was no obvious cause. The waitress took our drink order, and then the chit was misplaced. This resulted in a near half hour wait for drinks, during which time she didn't come to take our meal orders.

The time between order and arrival of food was reasonable enough, but to be honest, after waiting fifty minutes from entry to getting the food, I really wasn't hungry.

There were lots of little slip ups, from pouring water into a glass of Sprite to mixing up bills, and while I get that we were a crowd of 8, and that has the potential to be stressful, the waitress never once apologized or gave explanation (other than the drink wait, when prodded).

As for the food, it was good, but not great. Their lunch menu is much better than the dinner menu, as I find the dinner menu overpriced and lacking any good middle ground. I didn't want to spend more than $18 on a main, but that left me with a choice of pasta or a burger and I wasn't in the mood for either. So, I ended up with the kobe beef sliders (meh) and the caesar salad, which had huge clumps of burnt/roasted garlic in it.

I might go back for lunch, but not dinner, and the service at this location was twenty times worse than that at the one on Wellington.

Took my special lady-friend here for Wednesday Date Night: an app, two mains, and a dessert for $50.

You do have to pick from a limited menu compared to the normal one (www.milestonesrestaurants.com), but the selection's broad enough that everybody should be satisfied by what's on there.

Started out with the baked goat cheese and slow-roasted garlic flatbread plate. Very nummy, and I do love the cranberry relish (the roasted corn's kind-of difficult to spoon onto your flatbread, though.) Good starter.

Our mains (Kobe meatloaf for me, grilled Mediterranean chicken for she) were also delicious. The meatloaf was very savoury, thanks to the Shiitake jus and crisp-fried onions. I wouldn't have minded something a little tangy on the plate to offset the umami overload: a ketchup, for example, or maybe even something with some tamarind in it. Alternatively, get a glass of a big-honkin' Cabernet Sauvignon to go with it, rather than the Shiraz I opted for.

Dessert (AKA The Cookie) was also just what the doctor ordered. Big-honkin' chocolate cookie with white chocolate chips and vanilla gelato. Simple, delicious, and well-executed.

Milestone's occupies a weird middle-ground for me, though. I know that for the same price as a dinner there we could go to The Works twice; and for a little bit more than what we paid we could go to, say, Murray Street.

That having been said, Milestone's has a sufficiently varied and interesting menu that I think we'll be back. Good food, generous portions.

I hope I don't loose a foodie star, but Milestones was a great brunch choice, even though I tend to avoid the corporate chains. We choose it because it has a gluten free menu, and my wife had the red curry chicken. Many of their mains can be made gluten free, and our server had some great suggestions, such as eggs benedict made with the gluten free burger buns.

I had the california benedict, which is eggs benedict with grilled shrimp and guac. It was really good. It also came with roasted potatoes, topped with a chili jam. The chili jam was awesome.

The kids menu offerings were an incredible deal, 8.99 which included mains, drink and desserts. The mains were so large, they fed the kids for supper too.

This was a great place for our family, as it was kid friendly, the food was really good, and very celiac friendly.

Every time I head to Milestones, I have to have a Bellini. It's my default drink option here. It's so tasty!

So good! I love bellini's and this one is really delicious! I usually order it with the extra shot (choice of raspberry vodka or pineapple rum...I go with the vodka because it has a higher alcohol content therefore you get more for your money) but I don't mix it in I just drink it as a shooter. Much cheaper than actually ordering a shooter and I can't resist a good deal. ;) I love the little drink animals too!

...and I should mention that this "drink" is so good that guys should order it too. Who cares if people look at you funny -- it's delicious!

Fishbowl-sized, eh? Hmmm.... wow.

Also comes in a fishbowl size...ie a real fishbowl :D

The famous Bellini!! DELISH! Perfect for the patio on a hot day.

"A frozen blend of premium white rum, peach liqueur and champagne, topped with Boone's sangria."

I know another review on this dish here wasn't all that great but I quite enjoyed it. Simple, not a lot of sauce and I love any kind of nuts with pasta. The rosemary/garlic foccacia (spelling?) that came with was yummy...but then again, I love fresh rosemary so this was a win win for me.

This is a delicious slice of cheesecake.
I believe it's vanilla bean cheesecake with coffee creme anglaise or something like that (don't quote me on it). Our server suggested we try it with their homemade butterscotch sauce and brought us a little dish of it to pour on. Heaven!

They have Kobe Meatloaf here. At ~$20 I'm not sure whether it was actually "Kobe", or just American Wagyu. A satisfying portion but no better than any other meatloaf I've tried in my life.

This was the chocolate ganache torte. Very rich, but not bad at all. The crust was very delicious. If you like dark chocolate and a cookie crumb crust, then you’ll love this.

Me and another girl friend ordered their roasted garlic caesar (dinner portion) with additional grilled chicken breast. Their so-called signature Caesar dressing was okay. (I gave 2.8 stars out of 5). Again, good portion and I had hard time to finish it as well.

P.S. The two crostinis included in the salad (put on the side) were not fresh at all. We only had one bite.

Two girl friends ordered their grilled chicken salad (chicken breast, red corn tortilla strips, cilantro, tossed with honey-lime peanut vinaigrette and peanut sauce). The portion was huge and one girl friend can't finish it.

The Korean Style Sticky Ribs were tasty and quite generous in portion. I'd totally get these again. 12 bones for 10 tasty little bones.

The Poblano Soup had a nasty bitter taste and not much else. The Margarita was way overpriced for one made with bar lime. Stick to the Bellini and a handful of tasty appetizers...

Roasted red pepper and tomato bisque. It was topped with coupons with parmesan (I think, the bellini was starting to take effect). The soup had a great texture and flavour, I was quite impressed since it was the "soup of the day".

Thursday before last I had the opportunity to try the Milestones at Rideau and Sussex. I had the spinach dip and the soup of the day (roasted red pepper and tomato bisque with cheesy croutons). I love love love their spinach dip. It was cheesy, creamy goodness. Nice and savoury. I have a feeling I am going to crave this constantly.

2008 Jul 14
The South East Asian Chicken Skewers with Trio of Dipping Sauces (Kobe mustard, cool mango vinaigrette, sweet citrus cilantro sauce ) were reasonably tasty. Not as good as those spicy thai drummettes though. I kept switching through the sauces, trying to find one I really liked. Too bad because southeast asian flavours can be so great.

We also had the Hot Spinach & Artichoke Dip that Ashley shows in her review. Very nice indeed!

2008 Jul 13
The Spicy Thai Chicken Drummettes are really very good. Tasty and satisfying, served in a pool of peanut sauce (hidden in this admittedly bad picture) with a bowl of sesame-cucumber mayo.

I think I said before that the appies are good here -- better than the mains. I still stand by that. A great place for a drink and a few small plates!

2008 Jan 26
I also ordered the roasted corn & potato chowder. A very rich and creamy soup with red corn tortilla strips, ancho chile, cheddar, sour cream (see the photo).

2008 Jan 25
We ordered two appetizers to start. This was their famous spinach & artichoke dip with red tortilla chips. Good finger food to go with our drink (POM juice, ice tea) before our meal. But nothing special.

P.S. All the ladies are monitoring our weight carefully as our New Year resolution.

2008 Jan 25
This was their calamari with andouille sausage that we ordered to share. Taste was okay.
