Was there last night again and the ambiance and the staff are just great. notwithstanding the great quality of yogurt. This is my new spot.
The staff last night told me that it is not a franchise. it is locally owned. Wow! they did a great jobs! It is so welcoming! I will go back again and again.

Price wise, they are charging .55 cent an once which is pretty much the standard in Ontario

I noticed that they were also doing Crepes and waffles. I will try the crepes on my next visit... :)

You have to try this place

i love spooning ! i went i go there almost everyday and i love it. they have a great staff very welcoming. its an experience that you must try if you are n the neighborhood. The flavors are really good I don’t know why people are saying that they are dull. Iv tried Menchies and they are the same price and I personally find the yogurt better here at spoon.

After my first post I went down and tried the frozen yogurt. I was right it does not compare to Menchies,Yogutys et al in Toronto. Way more expensive and not as flavorful.
On the up side Menchies is coming to Ottawa at Landsdowne park when it is finished and also to Bayshore in the new area being built.
The frozen yogurt at Funhaven is almost as good as those in Toronto and cheaper than Spoon self service.

I was not a fan of this place. It seems to be all about the toppings bar...but if you aren't a fan of gummy candies on your fro yo, there isn't much for you here. My friend tried a couple of the fruit flavours (pomegranate and orange creamsicle to name a few) and she threw out her cup after a few spoonfuls because she didn't like the taste. I went with chocolate and vanilla and it was just ok...not very flavourful. To be fair, I don't have much experience with frozen yogurt, so perhaps that is how it's supposed to taste.

This is for New User 4890...
I am a huge spoon fan, have been for the month that it has been open!! They charge 0.55$ per ounce, and have 12 different flavours. You definitley have not been to a self serve yogurt restaurant in Canada if you haven't payed over 0.40$ an ounce.n My family and I love it! We will continue to return. WE LOVE SPOONING!

I've been following Ottawa Foodies for 6 years now, and this is the first time I've felt so compelled to create an account, after experiencing Spoon's self serve frozen yogurt.

I -love- self serve frozen yogurt. My fiancee and I have been to over 10 different franchises/small businesses that sell it.

Spoon has sub-par flavors, we tried every flavor that was available between the two of us, and none of the fruit flavors were tart or resembled what they claim to be flavored after. This place is more like sweet, soft serve ice cream, so if you're into that, then you may like what you find, but if you're looking for a yogurt experience, this is not the place for you. Their nut and cake flavors tasted off, not in a good way, but at least you could MAYBE discern some of the nut flavors in a blind taste test, that would be impossible for the fruits.

The biggest issue I had with coming here is that I didn't notice until i got to the register, but they charge $.59 an ounce!!!!! NO yogurt place I have ever been to has charged over $.40! this may not seem like a lot, but usually we have trouble getting over $7 per cup at literally every place we've been to, even the independent small business yogurt places.

For two cups, that we ended up throwing in the trash after walking a couple blocks, we paid $26!!!

I hope they fix their flavors and find a way to make it more affordable, because Ottawa deserves to enjoy quality self serve yogurt!

It would just be so sad if this place ended up setting the bar for Ottawa Yogurt places until a decent franchise shows up.

I LOVE THIS PLACE!
The staff are really friendly and the yogurt is delicious! I had 4 out of the 12 flavors with a variety of toppings and it cost me 6.21$ i thought it would end up costing more. The staff are kind enough to warn you about the pricing so you don't end up having a 10$ froyo. We were able to taste before to help us decide what flavors we enjoyed best! also learned that this business is a family business and is not a franchise! Very happy that this type of concept is now available in Ottawa. I had a great time!

After learning about Spoon Self Serve Frozen Yogurt Lounge on Groupon, I couldn't resist in this summer heat, and headed down with a couple of friends around 10:30pm since we were in the area.

We were greeted at the door by a polite man with a French accent who didn't identify himself (I'm guessing owner/manager), who walked us through how it works, and expected costs. They have about 16 flavours, some regular, some non-fat, set up in pods of two - each can come out in a single flavour or blended together. Cups come in a single size - 16oz (2 cups), and if full of yogurt will cost ~$8-9. Toppings may weigh you down more. Toppings included fresh fruit, nuts, candies, and chocolate-based selections.

With the Groupon for two people (up to $14), they do limit you to two people, and it's a realistic amount. We ended up paying an extra $1-2 for our two cups (so closer to $16 total for two).

Not having a lot of experience with this, I can tell you I thought it was great. I tried vanilla, chocolate/orange dreamsicle combo, and lime. My friends loved the chocolate mint.

There was no line up, and there was indoor and outdoor seating available.

I'll be happy to go back next time I'm in the market.

Hi I have been to Spoon Frozen Yogurt last night.
It was excellent! I have been there a couple times in the last week and it was as good as the first time. They charge .55 cents an oz which is the same as in toronto. My cup cost me 5.25. I had Cappuccino, Chocolat and Pistaccio I also added a few toppings. They changed a few flavors from my previous visit which make my experience more interresting. The topping bar was also very exciting. The decor is very nice and the staff is great!

It is a place to visit for sure!

I did go to Spoon yesterday. I love frozen yogurt, and had just returned from Toronto where I had had Menchies. I have also eaten at Pinkberry and several other Yogurt establishments in NYC.

I was quite disappointed by Spoon. I found it expensive - I bought the same amount at Menchies last week for about 4$ less (two servings. They did say they had lowered the price since they first opened.

They were also reluctant to let us taste flavours before we chose them - which I find a bad busines strategy. Yes, if people are coming in and tasing and not buying, then that means either they will come back aonther time, or they genuinely don't like your product....

The variety of flavours is good, but I found them all way too sweet, compared to other frozen yogurt. They also melted too quickly, so I think they need to keep them colder to start out with. I was very disappointed as I will still have to get my yogurt fix elsewhere than Ottawa, but at least it will save me from having something I love too often.

My two young kids were not too impressed either, though they liked the decor, and the staff were nice.

Sugar sugar, please... don't use phrases like "Flavours are not very intense" 'when you aren't talking about this vendor and haven't even tried their product! Many readers skim reviews and a comment like that could be quite misleading.

Opinions trickling in via Twitter suggest that the fro yo here is tasty. If it's anything like Pinkberry, it should be amazing without any gimmicky toppings.

Curious to hear from someone who has tried Spoon *and* Pinkberry...

Haven't tried ths one yet but similar places like Menchies, Yogis etc on Bloor street, Toronto serve a whole array of flavours.
Flavours are not very intense, the candies etc as toppings seem to be the big draw.
All sold by weight.
Always busy summer and winter in TO
We always seem to be a couple of years behind the other major cities when it comes to any new item.

I biked past this place this morning. It is called Spoon Frozen Yogurt Lounge, and it looks like a part of a franchise from the USA. I am very excited, as I have been getting my self-serve frozen yogurt fix in Toronto and NYC. Now in Ottawa, and near my house! I am in trouble. Will try to swing by this afternoon.

There is a new place to get frozen yog in the Byward. I believe it is called Scoops. It is right beside Wonton Mama.

We were having happy hour nibbles at Wonton Mama and kept seeing people in pink shirts handing out samples of something. I thought they were part of Wonton Mama. Upon leaving, we happened to go left instead of right and decided to pop in to see what it was all about.

It is a self-serve place! AND they have candies and such to put on your yogurt! Cost is by weight.

We were like little kids.
