Yes, that is the place.

Correction: this is going to be a copy of a bar in Sudbury, "M.I.C. Canadian Eatery and Whiskey Pub".

So-Go, which closed and became the Greek Souvlaki House ... is now closing.

A new microbrewery is going to be taking its place.

That's all I have for now.

Huzzah?

Hey Tracinho - take a look at the reviews of Saigon Boy Noodle House. Fresh Foodie had posted a picture of a Spicy Chicken Satay soup and its still number one for me...and I have had lots of Satay soup in Ottawa and Vietnam - this is great. The picture even though its from 2007, I was there this week and its the same. As good as the picture FF took - it does not do it any justice; the smell and flavour !!

Cheers

I'm bummed, I really liked their chicken satay soup...anyone no where else I can find this dish? Is it thai? Vietnamese? Cambodian? None of the above?

Darn, I just now am seeing ILike's review and pic down below of the lunch special. Would love to know where I could get the same dish somewhere else!

I wonder if it's the 'ol 'Greek Souvlaki House' that's taking over this spot ?

See: Greek Souvlaki House

If so, I hope they have those whoppn' big plates with tastey ta-toes.

I also liked there gyro meat ... similar to East Coast Donair meat.

Confirming that it's indeed gone. In fact, there's already a banner covering up the awning advertising the new place taking over, the "Greek Souvlaki House"

Kind of macabre, but I feel like I should be part of a pool betting on how long this one's going to last (not a wish, just an observation on how Bermuda-triangle-esque this location seems to be as far as restaurant fronts go)

Unfortunately this awesome little place is closed :(

It's a cut through market on Bank Street.

For lunch today I stopped by this relatively new place off of bank street (near the independent) called So-Go. They describe their food as Asian fusion. It is essentially a take out place although there is enough room in the restaurant for maybe 15 to 20 patrons. From my experience this afternoon THIS PLACE IS A KEEPER. I am so full, and so satisfied, and my wallet isn't destroyed either. Before I get to what I ordered, I have to say, the people working there are super friendly, accommodating and there seems to be a regular clientele seeing as though the waitresses knew people by name and knew their "usual order". Good sign.

There are quite a few things on their menu, all of which are very reasonably priced. They have: egg rolls, spring rolls, summer rolls etc etc. Salads: Lemongrass beef, shrimp papaya. Soups: pork wanton, hot and sour, tom yum chicken etc etc. A whole pile of fried rice dishes, Noodle soups (not sure if it would classify as Pho, so a Pho connoisseur needs to update me on that), a pile of rice dishes, and a bunch vermicelli dishes. All of the "mains" range from 5.00-9.50, not bad at all. They also have combo plates which combine a few of the aforementioned menu items. To make it even better they have flavored milk tea and bubble tea :). Check out the website that I posted, their menu is online.

About what I ordered: I had what they call the "Thai lunch special". Not sure if it is really "thai", but all I can say was that it was super tasty and literally a mountain of food - as you can see in my picture. It was a large amount of rice topped with 3 skewers, one beef, one chicken and one shrimp. They were very well flavored, with hints of cilantro, pepper and it included a pile of chili spice on top. The chicken and shrimp were excellent however I found the beef a little chewy (but still pretty darn great). They also included in my bag a container of that hot Thai chili sauce everybody loves. Similarly, there was a container of a sweet, vinegar type sauce that Thai places often include as a dipping sauce for spring rolls.

As an added bonus, a salad was included for free and it was essentially an interesting take on coleslaw. There was even a carrot flower garnish – nice touch! I poured over that vinegar concoction which made the salad even more delicious. Another completely added bonus was the soup. I believe it was a Tom Yum Chicken soup. It was delish, nice and sweet with a strong taste of cilantro. There were generous pieces of chicken and a few spears of baby corn.

All in all, two people could share this giant plate of food, salad and soup. It was delicious and completely and utterly satisfying. The best part however was that the bill was 11 dollars flat. What a gem. I will be coming here very often!

It might not be that “authentic”, but in their defense, they claim it is fusion food. Highly recommended; great value (and quality), a mountain of food and speedy and friendly service. Mmhhmm :-)
