This newest addition to Ottawa's market scene started as a pilot project in August 2007. It will now run the full season every Saturday from May 27 to September 27. Only producers from within a 100 mile radius of Ottawa will be invited to participate.

Foods from The Main Farmers Market

I'm a regular shopper at the Main Farmers' Market, and I love it. There are quite a few vendors with fresh produce (the corn is amazing right now!), and the past couple of weeks there has been local, organic meat.

Last week there was live music playing, and there is always free face painting--a weekly event for my kids. It's a nice community market, and it has everything I need.

Last Saturday I went on my first visit to the farmers market at St. Paul University. Most of the vendors at this market also operate stalls at the Lansdowne Farmers Market on Sundays. I still find the emphasis is on craft items but there were a few vegetable stalls set up, some Ethiopian breads and sandwiches (sold by the same man at the Lansdowne Farmers Market and the organic farmers market in Ottawa South), and a stand from Bearbrook Farms. According to their website workshops are available but nothing was advertised on my visit there last Saturday. I still prefer the organic farmers market in Ottawa South but the market at St. Paul University is handy if I am looking for somewhere to shop closer to home.
