Foods from Chez Fatima

Went here today for lunch with a friend. The lunch buffet was $11.99 which I thought was quite reasonable and my friend and I both agreed that the food was excellent. The food wasn't marked so I don't know the names but the chicken dish with a yellowish sauce was tangy and flavorful - I think it had saffron in it. There was a lot of cold salads and some vegetable stews for vegans/vegitarians which I liked too and the soup was so delicious. It was fresh, flavorful and comforting which was perfect because I have come down with a horrible cold.

Fatima, herself, was a wonderful and genuinely friendly host. She was very welcoming and she brought me and my friend baklava to taste since it was our first time there. Also, I had mentioned that I was hot inside (she left the door open because there were people on the patio and she was the only one working there) and she offered to turn the air conditioning on for me.

Bottom line, the food was great and the service was perfect. I will definitely bring my friends here in the future.

Just to add - I just read the review frenchzie posted below www2.canada.com

and they described my sentiments about Fatima to the "t". She is so warm and delightful! Can't wait to go back!

Located on Promenade du Portage (at Laval Street, Old-Hull), Chez Fatima brings the warm Moroccan sunshine in your plate...

... and I will not detail the very warm greetings with which the Maghrebis can welcome you!

My favorites: pastilla as a starter and the merguez tajine as the main course... I always try to keep enough room for Fatima's rose water baklavas - the best I've ever had! - or a gazelle's horn...! The traditional mint tea is actually made from fresh mint.

The baladi shows (belly dancing) are usually Fridays and Saturdays, around 20:00.

Should you come with someone which is not familiar with Moroccan food or may be puzzled by the menu, the buffet is always a good option...

Please note that the restaurant moved from 103 to 85 Place du Portage...
