Bocado is closed. There's a new Steak House on Somerset Street now. I don't think we will miss this mediocre restaurant.

I went here for dinner with my boyfriend and his sister for her birthday last night. I looked on here before going, so my expectations weren't sky-high, and thus I wasn't as disappointed as I would have been had I gone in blind.
We started with the zucchini/cheese/tomato sauce and roasted red pepper/feta tapas. The feta cheese that featured so predominantly throughout the entire night tasted as though it had been left uncovered in the fridge for a long time, and this put a serious damper on the meal. The tapas were otherwise alright.
We also got a 1/2 litre of the house red (cannot remember the name.. woops) which was surprisingly good. I am usually a little sceptical about ordering the house wine but this turned out to be the highlight of the evening.
I had the stuffed eggplant for my main which was a hunk of eggplant wrapped in zucchini, drowning in a rose sauce with the aforementioned feta baked overtop of it all. It was very confusing to me. I felt like there should have been some orzo or something to stand up to the copious amount of sauce that was used (which was disappointingly bland). I would not order this again.
My boyfriend had the lamb and he also complained about the amount of sauce, however his was supposed to be served on a bed of couscous which was.. not there. He said that the lamb was a little dry but did finish the entire plate. His sister had the chicken with a za'atar rub and she said that it was quite good.
I do appreciate the fact that there were 5-6 vegetarian dishes on the menu which didn't seem to be placed as an afterthought, as I find in many finer dining establishments. The service was okay, although there was some kind of thunderdome action happening in the kitchen at one point which could be heard clearly throughout the dining room.
Overall I found this restaurant to be painfully mediocre. I would not recommend it.

Disappointing. The food wasn't bad, but it wasn't at the level that it should be for a $25 main course. I started with the grilled octopus and calamari salad, followed by the lamb skewers with morocan spice. My salad was ok. The dressing wasn't memorable, and a few pieces of calamari were rubbery, but most were fairly tender. My lamb was also just ok, and perhaps a touch dry. While the taste of the spice was good, it was a little too grainy for my liking, requiring a lot of water to cleanse the palate. The sauteed vegetables were somewhat bland, but I enjoyed the roasted potatoes.

The atmosphere was pleasant, the wait staff were knowledgeable and professional, altho it took them 10-15 minutes to notice that the CD was skipping. Maybe I just went there on an off-night.
