I am originally from Chicago, and have lived in London, Washington DC, and Toronto before coming to Ottawa. While I miss the variety of fantastic dining options I had in past cities, I do find the Ottawa culinary scene has improved dramatically in the 3 years I've lived here.

My passions are wine and cooking (in that order), so I'm often torn between staying in and making a nice meal or heading out. I enjoy almost all cuisines (except Chinese), and have fun trying new places ranging from dive bars to 5-star restaurants. Some of my favorites in the city are Whalesbone, Chez Lucien, Wellington Gastropub, Fraser Cafe, Le Baccarat, Fleur de Sel, Piz-za-za, and Angelo's Pizza House (primarily for the cheap drinks and the shenanigans often witnessed on the patio).

My profile picture is from one of my all-time favorite Chicago places, Petey's Bungalow Lounge, on the far South side. One must drive (or ride the subway) through a lot of unsavory territory to get there, but its well worth it. It has been open since the 1940's, and I don't think there's been a remodel since. Only place in the city where $24 will get you a 14oz. prime filet mignon with soup, salad, relish tray, garlic bread, potato and dessert. And the bartender makes a mean manhattan.

If anyone in the forum is ever heading to Chicago, please feel free to drop me a line if you're interested in reco's. I've wined and dined my way up, down and across the city, so I'm full of ideas!
