Beef short ribs [Food/Vendor]

2017 Nov 12
Anyone has a good suggestion of where to get beef short ribs? I want to make Korean beef ribs. Loblaws sells them at an astronomical price. Is there a reason beef short ribs are expensive?

Piggy Market carries them. But not sure of the price.

Yeah, that's one of the beef cuts that greatly increased in price over the past several years due to a surge in global demand for Canadian beef as well as the increase in value of the Canadian dollar. They do go on sale from time to time at the usual grocery chains: Loblaw's, Your Independent, Superstore, Metro, Sobeys, etc. for between $5.99-$6.99 per pound, but not this week (after checking the flyers for the aforementioned stores), unfortunately.

T & T have them on sale occasionally.

Produce Depot carries beef short ribs. They're not cheap. The regular price is about $15/kg but the cut is excellent, about 3" in height. Very meaty and great for long simmering recipes.

Farm Boy regularly carries them -- both the large bone style great for simmering meaty stews and the side cut Asian BBQ style. The price is not cheap though.
