CBC story about Fresco has a few more details -
"Jim Bickford, the co-owner of the restaurant, said a number of factors contributed to the decision to close including high rent and the increasing costs of running a restaurant.
Bickford said a Toronto franchise will be taking over the location."

Vibe lounge.
Did anyone ever go in there, or was it just a drug front?
This CBC report is suspiciously without supposition. Just the facts.

Swiss Pastries?
Their rum balls were my favorite.
The main chocolate and candy supplier for Swiss Pastry, farm boy (Bank st at least) and a lot of the smaller deli's in Canada is Euro Excellence/Chocodirect.
You can order stuff directly, but their website is still being redone, says to call to place an order.

Berrymans (Bank near Flora, in Centretown) has finally closed its doors. Not overly surprised, the last few weeks (or maybe longer, I rarely went in there) someone told m they no longer had a menu, just (cheap or free) pizza when you order some beer. They were having trouble finding kitchen staff or something. As soon as I heard this, I had a feeling it was closing soon. I did hear that the owner was trying to sell, though not sure if he did sell it in the end.
I walked by yesterday and it was still open and I was thinking that it was strange they'd keep it open without much staff or food. Sure enough it was completely shut down today. Almost made it to 5 years (it opened in June 2012). I'm kinda surprised it lasted that long, actually. Wasn't really that impressed with the food at all (even for a sports bar).

Oops I was completely wrong about Berrymans. It was open today, so I guess it's just closed Mondays now. The menu and signs were ripped off the plaque at the front so it sure looked closed. Oops I guess because I've heard they don't have a menu/kitchen staff anymore, I assumed they finally shut down.
Can anyone tell me how to edit my comment? I wouldn't mind deleting the part of my note saying that Berrymans has closed as it was a mistake and I wouldn't want to confuse anyone looking to go there. TIA

they are actually renovating the entire top (ground floor) of the Clocktower on Bank. Saw inside thru windows yesterday and place is completely gutted. The downstairs is still open for private parties, previously made reservations etc. Yep, they've been talking about these renovations for a couple years now and it's an old building so it really needs it. Place has been falling apart slowly for a long time now. I know a few people who work there and they said it'll be closed approx 2 months (it's been officially closed about 2 weeks now). Should be interesting to see what they do with the 'new' space and whether it'll be a lot different. Even the bar and all the booths have been taken out.

With respect to the Clocktower on Bank St, as others have said, it is closed to renovate the main level. If you want to see it gutted, check out their Instagram, they have some photos.
I had been told they were closing for six weeks, but could easily see that stretching to two months as someone had asked.
To those who thought this may be financial, no. And given that they just opened another location (that makes six) with number seven coming soon to Rideau/Nicholas, I think that was a pretty silly guess. And no, the other locations are not franchises.

That's a shame about Flying Banzini. After the new chef/ partner came on and. Dave stepped back from the day to day of the restaurant, things went downhill.
Food portions kept getting smaller and some staff were interested in chatting to their friends rather than taking care of customers. My office used to go semi regularly and we stopped going.

Bridgehead on Ogilvie @ Bathgate is closing. The sign out front says that they are "focusing on more walk friendly locations" or something similar. The place was always, always packed so I don't understand it.
...Anyone else think they just want to be under the 20 franchise limit so they can hide their calorie counts?

That's weird. That's the second one that's closed down; thought Orleans might have been a one-off due to lease or something, but now Ogilvie too. Healthy businesses usually grow, even slowly, not the opposite. If they wanted 'walk-friendly' locations why did they close their location next to MEC? That's just about the most heavily trafficked area in Westboro. The one on Golden is pretty far at the end of the shopping strip and the replacement shop next to Farm Boy is not in a location that would get much walk-by traffic other than people living there and Farm Boy shoppers. Iris St. and Fairlawn Plaza don't seem to any more walk-friendly than Ogilvie.

wrt "closed for renovations" I know someone who has gone through that. The "closed for renovations" in their case was they were loosing money, did not renew the lease, but were still trying to figure out if there was anyway to make the business viable. They wanted to their current cliental to still think of them for a few months, just in case they figured out how to start over.

Good Eats will be closing in their present location by December 8th. The building has been sold so they have to be out by then. They are now looking for a new location and new owner: www.facebook.com

So Streat is only closing for the winter. They will be back in the truck downtown in the spring. If you look at the wording of all their posts on Facebook and Twitter they never said they were closing for good, just for the season. They also explicitly said earlier this week "After this it's see you at Oat Couture in the new year (Old Ottawa South) or downtown next spring?"

Actually, from the truck itself yesterday it seemed quite ambiguous, on the lines of 'we'll see'. I felt that the more likely scenario was no truck. Part of a tweet from yesterday: "Thank you downtown for a very memorable last service of the season. That was a crazy line. We will miss all of you."
