Dried Peas [General]

2014 Jun 2
I was in NASA grocery today and I saw some dried peas in a bag. I got a 4 lb bag for $6.50, which I thought was expensive compared to soybeans, but that's a really good price for dried peas.

I'm going to try to make pea milk in my soy milk machine from them.

But . . . I've also read you can just eat dried peas as a crunchy snack. Really ?

I've tried dried peas coated in wasabi. Pretty good. More about the wasabi and crunch than the pea flavour but pretty good.

I've tried the peas with wasabi before. Those are kind of addictive.

-------------------------

Apparently dried peas are high in protein and fiber.

Canada is the world's largest exporter for dried green peas . . . funny I'd never really noticed them or tried them before.

In the US, people are selling small bags of them at ridiculous prices as a healthy snack that lowers blood sugar.

I haven't crunched one yet . . . perhaps I should. :-)

eg. this guy is selling them for $12 for a 12 oz bag

the wasabi peas are a fried product.

I'm fairly certain you will not find them enjoyable just dried as they are. I believe (like chickpeas), that they are cooked. Probably in a fryer or dry roasted.

I'll try one tomorrow :-)
