Soylent [General]

I'm not joking - someone has engineered a food called Soylent.

Would you eat it? Would you consider substituting some of your meals in a day/week/month with this?

It's basically a blander tasting protein shake. It's not a new food, it's a guy tossing vitamins in a blender.

"...IS PEOPLE!!!!!"

I would eat it on the principle that anyone with that sense of humor deserves support.

The developer claims it's not just "vitamins in a blender", the product contains essential fats, protein, amino acids, vitamins, etc - a complete meal replacement.

so its "essential fats, protein, amino acids, vitamins, etc" in a blender? Sounds like a bacon/peanut butter/banana milkshake to me.

Lol.

It's not green ?

slightly unrelated, but the Soylent reference made me think of the recently unveiled lab grown burger.

It's on sale in the US as of March 2014.

I started a new thread on it.

There are DIY versions.

Initially I thought it was a joke because of the name. But it's real.

Feed yourself for $50 a month. :-)

Healthy and nutritionally complete? Eco-friendly?

It's interesting. I want to try it.

Okay, sure. It might be possible.
It is not for me.
My diet requires a certain amount of gravy.

So? Soylent with a delicious soylent gravy should work . . .

I imagine they can add an artificial flavor to make it taste gravylike.

One of the reporters from Metro newspaper tried living on soylent for a week: metronews.ca I think I will stick to the Fettucine al Pesto I have planned for dinner this evening...

Anyone? Hello? Is this thing on?

She said it took too long to drink it. But I suppose you could always eat the powder, then drink some water. One of my room mates in university used to eat frozen orange juice, then drink a few glasses of water after.
