Stovetop safe slow cooker-help! [General]

2012 Nov 18
I bought a stovetop safe crock pot brand slow cooker from Costco 2 or 3 yrs ago and was quite happy with it since I like to brown my meat before slow cooking. The other day it cracked and can no longer be used. Not sure if I can buy another ceramic insert or if I should invest in a new one (probably going for the latter)

I found a Hamilton Beach stovetop safe one online at Future Shop for $99.99. Any other suggestions below or around the $100 pricepoint?

The Ninja looks cool but it's too pricey for me for the amount I use it.

I bought a crock pot branded one with a ceramic shell for the same purpose. The only time I actually tried to brown meat with it, it cracked. I thought it was stove-top safe from what I read. So there are actually crockpots out there that one can use on a gas stove? I'd like to know that too.
