cherry / grape tomato plants - where buy? [General]

2011 Jun 21
Foodie-gardeners - soooo late in planting this year and a bit rusty / newbie-ish from taking a couple years off.

Late new year resolution kicking in: am wondering if there's anywhere i can still buy cherry tomato plants and other veggies that might sit well in the same area?

went to Home Depot (baseline) on the weekend, but they only carried huskies and some other big varietal.

Try Parkdale Market, there is a stall there called Antoines best veggie plants imo

I would recommend ritchies on Innes Rd too.

Believe it or not, I took my Mom around a month ago to different stores to look at trellis. Walmart had some yellow pear cherry tomato plants like the ones my Mom plants from her own seeds. But I found their plants not in that good a shape compared with Ritchie's.

Bought some lebanese cucumber plant in the loblaw garden center yesterday. My mom is growing some from seed but the seed from osc last year were not the right type of cucumbers. So I figure for $1.49 for 4 little plants in 1 pot, she can have another chance to find the right type of plants

definitely a lot of plants left at canadian tire @ hunt club

I find the garden centers on the Quebec side have unusual things the main ones in Ottawa don't. It pays to cross the river sometimes. Also there are lots of garage sales all over on the Quebec side, weekends, if you like that sort of thing. My wife picked up a very nice Bodum French Press, brand new, for $2. I got her hooked on French Press, which I tend to use more than my aeropress actually.

Lowe's Garden Centre has some left (picked up 1 cherry and 1 beefeater yesterday)

Not sure what part of the area you are in. I shopped at the one on Innes Rd

thanks all!

following Tourist's suggestion (but prepared to go as far as Richie's per the other recommendations), i ended up scoring a couple good vines this morning at my local Cdn Tire (Carling Ave). Also likely to head to Parkdale this week to supplement this morning's purchase.

And, in case its of benefit to anyone else, i also noticed the Home Depot at Baseline has, since my mention above, replenished its vegetable stock - still no cherry / grape tomatoes (i could see), but a handful of others that looked pretty good.

at the Marche Outaouais there is a vendor that is selling plants that are already started.

last week there was some with small tomatoes on them, also a plant with one mini pepper starting to grow on it.

I bought myself a "living lettuce" plant- you can grow a lettuce plant indoors and eat the leaves :)
-so now I have an actual lettuce I can eat that is growing well in the kitchen!

also remember seeing they had rhubarb plants, herbs.
