I am tackling raising my own organic chicken here at the farm. I am also raising some for some friends and a few neighbors. I'm having them slaughtered at a licensed inspected facility as I want it properly done.I've been reading alot of the posts here... What are the prices for organic chicken per pound in the stores????
I called one store in the market and they charge 4.50 a pound...is this the going price?

I have only bought some frozen grain fed local chicken from a farmer in Quebec and their price list is online on the farmer's market website I order from.
I'll try and find that.

But my guess is they are around $6.50 a lb

Our certified organic pasture raised chicken sells for $6/lb and sells out a year in advance. Make sure you calculate your feed and labour costs carfully. It's very easy to accidentally give food away. ;-)

The place I posted is not organic, but is local and grain fed.
Most of the products I've bought so far are frozen,but was told they also have some fresh chicken sometimes.

So far have been pleased with the quality and prices are ok,I think.

Organic Girl-is the chicken you sell fresh or is it frozen as well?

Fresh if it's picked up within 24 hours of processing, frozen if it's after that. Well, unless a customer has asked me to keep it fresh for longer, of course.

Pretty tasty sorry I cannot read french...would love to be able to but I'm an import from western canada

They are supposed to have an English version of the same list, but not sure if it is still there.

I think though you can probably use some kind of Google translation program that is free online....that might work.
