favourite hamburger topping [Cooking]

2010 Jun 17
For the past few years we have been inviting family and friends for a Canada Day bbq and fireworks.
Just a simple bbq of hamburgers, but this year I thought I would offer a variety of toppings. I have a killer zucchini relish, but a misdemeaner corn relish.
So, any suggustions?

In fact, you could probably just skip the meat altogether for mine as far as that's concerned. Have a super BBQ!

Thanks for all the suggestions.
So far I think I will use carmelized onions,
pickled beets,
sauteed mushrooms,
blue cheese (I tried cooking this in the burger and it all seeped out),
grilled pineapple,
different flavoured cheeses

Blue cheese is soft enough that it should melt when put directly on the burger.

Gruyere, mushrooms, mayo on a rare burger with a bun that has been toasted so the outside is crispy and the inside is soft.....

Mrs. Downtown Diner votes for cream cheese, roasted pears and chutney.

I vote for ketchup and mustard.

Lettuce
cream cheese
bacon
tomato
ketchup
mayo (with or without horseradish)
and when I have it watermelon rind.

No further ideas--I Just want to try them all.

The old McDonald's Arch Deluxe sauce was the be all and end all of hamburger toppings for me. Unfortunately, as they discontinued it, it is no longer available, but French's Deli Style mustard mixed with mayonnaise seems to be a reasonable facsimile, and very tasty when spread on thick!

Woten - watermelon rind? that's a new one...

2010 Jun 21
I think he means pickled watermelon rind, Woten?

2010 Jun 21
I love a soft poached egg and well wilted spinach

2010 Jun 21
@monty - Yeah! Sorry, pickled watermelon rind! Bonus if its homemade! If i could, I would have it with every meat I eat! hahaha

I LOVE the pinapple-brie combination and BBQ sauce along too. (Yes, I got this idea from The Works...)

Just to let you know, we did have our Canada day bbq and I had lots of toppings using everyone's suggestions. Thanks so much.
The favourite was grilled pineapple, caramelized onion and brie along with relish.
Bacon and mushrooms with Swiss second.
The fireworks were grand. Everybody brought one and we lit up the lake.
