Foods that Make you Fart [General]

Here I am again, charting uncharted waters!

The discussion of burritos in the school thread made me do it!

Farting foods are actually easy sells for my 2 boys (6 and 8 years old). If we tell them a new food we want them to try makes them fart, they are game to give it a try!

I had a bean burrito for lunch and tacos for dinner. FML.

Not really a food, but chewing lots of GUM does it for me every time.

As for the goods,

-Chicken/turkey (I'd say poultry, but I don't have enough gasperience with duck or goose)
-Broccoli (if this convinces them to eat this super food, go for it!)
-Beans
-Eggs
-Many people say Mexican fare, but I haven't found it has that effect of me (aside from when it's beans)

Those are the obvious ones... I'll try and think of some more.

On the (counterproductive to 6 year-olds) preventive side of things, I've found the beano product to work well (www.beanogas.com/).

For me, a bowl of thick green pea soup is unrivaled in its ability to bring about an air of discomfort but taking beano with the first spoonful eliminates all adverse effects.

My husband grew up with this song ( he grew up in Ottawa and he is 44)
I wonder if anyone here know about this song. It even rhymes!

"Beans beans the musical fruit
The more you eat, the more you toot
The more you toot, the better you feel
So eat beans at every meal"

I cannot eat lobster... too dangerous.

Beans, beans the musical fruit
the more you eat the more you poop
down your leg and in your boot
the more you poop the better you feel
now you are ready for another meal
of beans, beans, beans

I need to dig it up, but I read an interesting article that had suggested that the order in which you consume the foods actually has a greater impact than the actual "productive" proteins and sugars.

It made sense at the time, essentially, different structures pass through your system at different rates. Backing up simple carbohydrates behind highly thermogenic proteins causes them to ferment.

Cheers,
James

Ever read "Fit for Life"? Certain food combinations cause problems for those with less than ideal digestion. Eat fruit alone, no carbs and meat protein together' and you will have less problem--check out this stuff if you suffer from indigsestion--not the the be-all-end-all but can help! Many other tips also very helpful for digestion in general.
