What is your favourite cooking magazine? [General]

i have a subscription to cooks illustrated. love it. the recipes aren't always my favourite, i just really like learning about the science behind it all and i like that there are no ads. i will occasionally buy vegertarian times if they are profiling foods i am not familiar with. my foodporn magazin is donna hay.

I get a copy of Jamie Oliver's new magazine every two months from Mags and Fags on Elgin.
They have a great system there where you can ask them to put a copy aside for you (of any magazine) and they will call you to let you know when it's in.
Jamie's magazine is really beautifully photographed with great recipes and it's printed on really cool paper - thick and matte.
It ain't cheap though - almost $14 a copy, but still cheaper than getting a subscription all the way from Jolly Old England.

I used to like "Saveur" a lot--haven't read it for a while. You might pick up a copy and see how you like it. Or I think you can get a free copy from www.saveur.com. I liked it because it was decidedly NOT recipe-focused. Instead. if focused on ingredients, regions, local dishes, etc. Great mixture of high-brow and low-brow.

'Fine Cooking' is far and away my favorite mag, and only remaining subscription. I also like 'Saveur' and occasionally pick up a copy of 'Eating Well', though I like it mostly for ideas as I'm not nearly a finicky about fat as they are. For wine, I like 'Tidings' and Ottawa's-own (and brand new) 'Brix' (check out ). I also regularly read Mark Bittman's blog and subscribe to his vodcast (you might want to check out the winners of Saveur's 1st annual food blog awards ; 'La Tartine Groumande' is one of my favorite websites PERIOD).
Hope that helps fill in the 'Gourmet' void!

Thanks everyone for the heads up. I am now at the library hoping to borrow some of these magazines before making a decision.
brock o. lee where do you get Art Culinaire? I looked for it in some of the magazine shops downtown (Mags and Fags and the magazine shop in the Byward Market among others) and I can't find it... I visited their website and it looks like a nice magazine...
W.C. I agree with Food & Drink - I already have quite a collection of them at home - they are great magazines aren't they?-;) As for Foodland Ontario I already get their calendars - do they publish a magazine as well?...
snoopy loopy And fellow Milk Calendar fan-;) I collected quite a few of them as well and I have to agree with the great recipes and food porn to boot-;)
Anton where do you get Brix? I used to get Burned Toast until they ceased publication and I would love to have a replacement local magazine...
