Grew up just outside Ottawa and I had never heard of this bylaw. Not knowing about it, I was out and about and noticed several stores that we're open in Beechwood and the Byward Market.

Good PR move on behalf of T&T. I believe it was an honest mistake on their behalf but the fact that they are giving back in such a way impresses me. Always had the intention to check them out but even more so now.

Class act on the part of T&T.

I am old enough to recall a time when I think all of Canada took Remembrance Day more seriously... nothing was open to at least noon. And stores didn't put out their Christmas stuff (including decorations) until after Remembrance Day in respect of the "somber" atmosphere that transpired between Hallowe'en & November 11th. I wish we'd return to this tradition. There are enough days of commercialism, and so little time to reflect and remember our past, and to be thankful for what we have in life. I watched the National Remembrance Ceremony on Tv this past Wednesday, and I heard Peter Mansbridge say that although almost all the WI Vets are gone, and the WWII Vets are diminishing (they are all over 85) the pride of Remembrance Day is growing with Canadians... partially due to Afghanistan. BUT, it would be nice if we could do more... 11 Days in November might sound like a long time in the Retail World (November 1 thru 11) BUT trust me if you've ever heard a Veterans Story... it is H#LL and feels a lot longer when you are on the front in a fox hole in the middle of a cold November Day... not knowing when things will change. Surely we can do more than just 2 minutes once a year (and even then there are some, who don't stop their busy lives... to pause, to remember).
