fresh picked raspberries are out! [General]

2009 Jul 13
in case you haven't seen any, i bought my first road-side carton of fresh picked raspberries tonight on the way home from work. it was a tiny little container and cost the price of gold ($5), but the flavour was wonderful. my son shoved fistfuls into his mouth. i tried to ration them, but they were gone to quickly.

this was not a *real* roadside stand, just one of the shouldice stalls in the arboretum.

where else are there local raspberries right now and what are the prices? i am heading down highway 7 this weekend and there are always lots of stands there, though mostly wild blueberries.

thanks for any and all info!

Parkdale Market has them. I made jam with the boys yesterday.

I bought a double-sized flat for $30, which had 12 x 250ml on the outside.

It was about 3400g of berries, which were about 3300ml when pureed for jam (before adding sugar). Got 12 x 500ml jars of jam plus one jar half that size of skimmings and scrapings.

Only a few 10s of grams of discarded berries.

Oh yes, we have thousands... growing in the wild - and the birds ate them all except six. i told my husband not to eat them too fast with his ice cream.
