Red Bull Cola, coca leaf extract, prohibition, etc. [Food/Vendor]

2009 May 24
So I was south of the border recently and happened to find some Red Bull Cola - a quick read on the ingredient list disclosed that some coca leaf extract is contained within, along with caffeine, etc. It reminded me a bit of Taras Grescoe's Devil's Picnic (which is a great book if you're into reading about food, drink & prohibition) - so I had to buy a 4-pack. Honestly, it has a great taste to it (reminds me of the cola nut candy I had when I was younger), and it definitely has a caffeine kick. I wonder if Red Bull Cola will ever make it to Canada? Will it ever be able to pass as a "health food product" or whatever moniker energy drinks are sold under in Canada?
