Smoking with Coffee Grounds? [Cooking]

can't answer your question about smoking them, but at my cottage, i burn mine in the wood stove. when it is hot enough, we actually burn a lot of food scraps. we use the ash to keep the smell down in the outhouse. i just throw the wet grounds into the fire, it dries out and burns up very quickly.

I started the same thread on the brewers' list and just got this advice back from a buddy who is a very good brewer and cook :
I wouldn't. I accidentally burned some beans while roasting the other
weekend, and I tell you the smoke was extremely harsh - I wouldn't want it
in my food. But why not use soem freshly brewed coffee it in a marinade, or
in your basting sauce? I did a turkey with a Redeye sauce loaded with
espresso, and it turned out very nicely indeed.

I think about all those grounds I toss out and while they do make great compost, I'm thinking there has to be something else I can do with some of them. I know that they will burn really well (and really hot) when dried out - if I had a wood stove I'd probably do that with all of them.
I'm thinking that some coffee character in smoked meat would be really nice.
