Lard [Food/Vendor]

2008 Dec 27
Lard's reputation has been rehabilitated somewhat in recent years, and in its fresh form it supposedly has a better fat profile than butter. BUT apparently most commercially available lard is hydrogenated, and so is loaded with trans fats. Does anyone know where to find unhydrogenated lard - would butcher shops normally carry it?

I get what appears to be homemade lard in the freezer case at Mercado Latino on Montreal Rd. Not only unhydrogenated, but super-porky-tasting as well.

Are super-porky-tasting and Super-Pig-tasting the same thing ?

.... then again, A super-porky-tasting lard will make a super-tasting-super-caloric churros !

Yummm Yummm Yummm !!

Anybody remember the little food stand on Wellington that served churros? The stand was tiny, and in (on the corner of?) a used car lot, or maybe a parking lot. The name of the business was Mr. Churro. I used to get these on the way home from school... six for a dollar!

I may have a vague memory.

.... and this is enough for me to poke new life into an old thread: "Street Food in Ottawa". --->
